Hello I am trying to track down a marriage certificate for my grandparents Jean McLean to Thomas Yeates what I think is November 1917 in the district of ELHAM ?????
I actually have it in front of me but can't read much. I was so sure they were married in Greenock Scotland but I think this place is in Canterbury England . A website where I could order a new one would be great thanks

You can order a new one from here
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/register.asp
The reference is Dec 1917 Elham vol 2a p 2760

If you can post snippets of a scan of the original certificate with the bits you can't read, we may be able to help without you having to buy another.
ADDED: Because if it's the writing you can't read, another copy will be exactly the same!!

These are the districts covered by Elham in 1917.

Could you give us a little more in formation about Thomas and Jean to explain why you think they married in Greenock?
-
There is only one Thomas Yeates marriage showing up for 1917 on scotlandspeople and that took place in Bellshill to a Margaret Cairns Stewart.

If Thomas and Jean's child was born in Scotland, will their birth certificate have information about the marriage?
-
Yes - Scottish register copies of births have the parents' date and place of marriage.
Added later - the births for Yeates are 1918 and later - copies of the register aren't available online. (The 1918 birth, for James, will be online in January 2019).
Certificates can be ordered - they cost 12 pounds each.

Marriage certificates can't be ordered online from the GRO - only births and deaths.

Yes you can, just click on 'Order a certificate/PDF'
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp
Their current online indexes only cover births and deaths but there are lots of other online sources for the GRO marriage indexes so that you can obtain a reference number.
