Title: Godwin of Hampshire
Post by: AsH62 on Saturday 21 July 18 10:29 BST (UK)
Hi.
I have got stuck on my research with James Godwin born 1811. When he got married it was in Minestead on the 12th of March 1833 and he married Elisabeth Blake. I am following the tree down through his son William Henry Godwin 1836-1899 who married Martha Burch. At this point I have been lucky because Martha was mentioned in newspapers and a book and the Bitterne History Society have been great.
In 1841 James is in the census in Minestead in 'Eadmaham' (I can't make it out) and from then on it's pretty easy but I can't work back from his birth. There is a baptism for a James Godwin in 1809 and the parents are John and Mary but they are such usual names that I can't be sure.
Please has anyone come across this family or can anyone advise me where to look.
Thank you
Alison

They were living in Cadnam.

The baptism you found looks like the only possibility in Minstead unless the family were non-conformists.

There is a family tree here which might be worth confirming

Thank you, I hadn't heard of Cadnam before but that's great information and I will have a look at the tree - thanks a lot
