Hi I have been looking for John Francis Gerraghty pos born 1859 Belmullet Co Mayo, his parents, Michael Gerrachty and Mary Mulgrew /married 19th March 1858 in Belmullet Parish, they later went over the water to Glasgow, I have his siblings, all born Glasgow, but I haven't been able to find him, I have searched Ancestry, with no luck, can you help me, I must add that both Mulgrew and Gerrachty names have changed a lot since arrival in Glasgow,

I just want to add that I once researched someone with the surname of Garratty for my friend. It was a nightmare with all the variations --- the 'r' s and the 't's were sometimes single and sometimes double --- it was Gereaghty, Gerritty, Gerraghty --- at the end I think I counted 9 variations in that particular name.
I know this is of no help with your query at all - but just remembering researching that name brings back a nightmare!!

HI, Thanks to everyone for their help, still looking and struggling

Have you searched neighbouring parishes?
This is just an idea. Have you tried looking for a baptism of John Mulgrew? The reason I ask is that I once saw transcriptions of baptisms from an Irish parish with mother's maiden surnames instead of father's surnames. It made it look as though every child in the parish in a particular year was illegitimate. ???
