Title: samuel heyburn

hi I am looking any info on Samuel Heyburn 5th Batt Royal Irish Fusiliers  15756 died  15 Nov 1918 age 39 son of Samuel and Maria Heyburn of Groomsport Co Down  I cannot find him on the 1901 or 1911 census of Ireland  maybe he had already joined the army ?

No service record survives so 100% answer not really possible but the calculation of his war gratuity gives an enlistment of August 1914.  Cross checking two men with numbers near to his (not foolproof) gave Oct 1914 and one with the next number in 5th R Irish Fus also gives Oct 1914.

Military records spell his name Hayburn.

Records are being added all the time to various sites (unless I missed it the first time round).   I now find his record of service from 1902 to 1910 in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.  After 1910 he was put on the reserve (that was part of what he signed up for in the first place) but he was discharged in 1911 having been convicted by the civil power of a felony (no detail given).  (Hayburn on that record).

The record is on Findmypast.  If you check there, there is going to be free access I understand at the weekend.
