I am trying to trace George James Brown b.Ludchurch, Weston near Haverfordwest in Wales 1850 who was married to Catherine Mortimer d.1893
He son George Mortimer Brown emigrated to Boston in 1894 and lived there and in New York with his wife Mary, He returned to Wales in 1900 and 1907. His brother Osborne came back with him in 1907.
Their father was living in Llanelly in 1901 with another brother, Albert. He then disappears and it's possible that he also emigrated to the US.
Where should I start looking for him?

Your ancestry tree shows Albert Mortimer Brown married in 1916 - so its just 1901 - 1916 your looking for ???

Correct. I know he was in wales in 1901 but have exhausted UK searches so I am now wondering whether he also went to the US. Are there any US records that he might be on?

You could try searching a couple of free sites - New York Passenger Lists (link below) - he may have gone via Canada.

If he was in the USA - he should show on the 1910 census

Thanks. I am not having any joy with 1910 and bizarrely I can't find his son George and his wife Mary either but I know they were on Boston or New York then.

Was he a"steward" on the ships in the early 1900's ??? Noticed both George and Osborne were listed as Stewards in 1900.
On the passport application 8 June 1920 he was listed as a steward.

I have found no record of him on a ship. I presumed that he was a household butler as his passport application stated he was resident in the US except for 2 trips to uk in 1900 and 1907.

Brilliant. Thanks for the help. I knew he had returned to the UK in 1907 but not who he was seeing nor did I know that Peter McNamara lived in Cloone in Ireland.
I am surprised that he is recorded as widowed on the marriage record as I have no record of a first wife.

Finally found George's 1900 trip.
It appears his brother Osborne was with him on that trip.

Osborne is recorded in Haverfordwest workhourse in 1895 where he took part in a race at an athletics event

I can only assume that as his mother was dead and father had a history of being arrested for drunkeness the workhouse was his only option until his eldest brother came back for him in 1900.
I am no closer to finding George Brown senior but I am beginning to wonder whether he never left Wales and died before 1911.
