Title: Green Dragon Inn Whitehaven
Post by: Jenny1 on Monday 30 July 18 12:38 BST (UK)

Does anyone know if there is a picture of this Inn. It was situated on Church Street, Whitehaven. Found an ancestor as landlord in 1901.

Thanks

Jenny

It might be worth emailing the local archives:

link to 1866 OS town plan shows the Green Dragon, south of the church, eastern side of Church Street.

Most of the buildings on that side of the street have been rebuilt/demolished by the look of things. Street view shows what may have been The Golden Fleece, a little further away from the church, on the west side of the street. Of course, the original buildings opposite may have looked completely different.

Also, there are several Facebook groups for Whitehaven history, if you FB they may be worth joining.

Many thanks for your in depth reply. I never thought to look on Google earth. At least I can get an idea where the Inn was.

You're welcome. I just edited my earlier reply suggesting Facebook groups for Whitehaven history. I have found useful snippets on such groups and some great images
