I think you mean the Lagan.

I can see a few mentions in newspapers of c1858/9 of a ferryman named Jeremiah Boyce in Belfast. Would these dates fit with your great grandfather?

Also mention of Mr. Thomas Boyce's boathouse, Balfour Avenue, Belfast, in 1905.

Irish Mariners website http://www.irishmariners.ie/searchdatabase.php :

Boyce, Jerry (Trimmer) RS2 No.446032.
Born: 1891-09-13, Belfast, Co. Antrim, Ireland

Birth Certificate shows the above Jeremiah was born to a Thomas Boyce ( a compositer) and Elizabeth McIlroy at 62 Cooke Street.

Was your Jeremiah the one born a few years before, in 1886, to Patrick and Mary Boyce, 45 Roy Street?

Interesting article about the Boyce family in Belfast Newletter April 15th 1938.

It has a quote that links 5 generations Great Grandfather Thomas, Grandfather Jeremiah (1834? -1880), Father Thomas (1854-1913), Jeremiah (1893? - after 1955) and his son Edward.

Grandfather Jeremiah Boyce 1834-1880 is listed in Griffiths Valuation and his sons baptism. I think the spouse name is Mary McGuigan.

Can anyone help with finding information on Great Grandfather Thomas

Mary Boyce nee McGuigan is buried in Milltown, died 13 Aug 1883.  She is buried in a plot with my Great Great Grandfather Joseph McGuigan.  Do any of the Boyce relatives on here who previously posted have any information about her ?  Mary's sister Ann McGuigan (d 5 Mar 1899) is also buried there.   I am trying to find out if Joseph was their brother / cousin ?  Thanks !
