I'm wondering if anyone who has spare time could make this coat of arms for me and possibly the crest as I cant seem to view Nichols plates which picture these arms.
I also cant find who the arms were originally granted to in the Bent family. The Pedigree of the Bent family of Cosby from Nichols antiquities lists the arms as thus -
Arms - 'Azure, on a fefs(Fess?) Or, between six bezants, three torteaux.'
Crest - 'a demi-lion Azure, holding between his paws a bezant'
The Pedigree is topped by 2 brothers -
''William Bent of Cosby, brother of Thomas Bent of Enderby''.
The Bents of Cosby were Lords of the Manor of Cosby.

I noticed that the arms and crest are not present on the Visitation of Leicestershire 1619 but they are present on the pedigree listed in Nichols along with pedigree being more in depth.

The Visitations were a hit and miss affair. There were no standards and individual Heralds accepted different levels of proof of ancient use. They didn't move around the County, but rather stayed in one inn and relied on word of mouth to pass the information the relevant people. And those whose claim might not be valid often found reasons to be "elsewhere". Ancestors of a supposed armigerous member of the Heraldry Society evaded the Heralds for three generations.
The Visitations were a money making exercise. If a man turned up with arms that were suspect, for a fee, they suddenly became legitimate. Many ancient families decided that they had no need to re-register as their arms were already recorded at the College, so were not included.

Still trying with not much luck as to Which Bent family member these arms where attributed to.
A bit more digging uncovers that the Bent family were raised to Wealthy Gentry Landowners and Farmers by Thomas Bent Esq. He purchased the Manor of Cosby in 1551 and by 1555 was Lord of the Manor of Cosby and had amassed 1,221 acres of Land in Cosby and Littlethorpe along with 6 Orchards, 6 Gardens, Windmill, Horsemill and a substantial amount of Houses, Cottages, Yards and Crofts.
His father was William Bent, Gent or Yeoman. William is listed in Subsidy rolls of Leicestershire in the early 1500s and is appraised as highly as most Squires but doesn't seem to be Lord of a Manor.
William in turn is likely son of Thomas Bent who in 1480 was Tenant of the Rectory of Cosby under the Abbot and Convent of St Mary de Pratis at Leicester. I'm not sure if he was the Rector or wether he was a Farmer of the Rectory's Lands.
Thomas Bent Esq dies in 1555 and his Son John becomes Lord and builds in the 1560s a ''Mansion House'' as it is listed in records in Littlethorpe which is still there today known as 'The Old House'

In 1617 a 'William Bent, Gent' is cited to show by what right he holds the Manor of Cosby. This is interesting as the Current Lord of the Manor is a Richard Bent son of Ambrose Bent.
The only William Bents in Cosby are William Bent the Elder 1571-1657 and William Bent the Younger 1597-1679. These 2 are both my Ancestors and both it seems descend from Robert Bent c1535-1595 youngest son of Thomas Bent Esq 1512-1555. So I'm not sure how William Bent is in Possession.
