Clarice Carter was born in 1894. In 1901 she was living with her parents, Alfred & Elizabeth, in Histon.
Can anyone see a record of her after 1901?
-
There is a Miss Clarice May Carter, 33 , parlourmaid , of 55 Fitzjohn's Avenue , Hampstead , departing 13th October 1927 on the SS Bendigo bound for Australia.
I haven't spotted her in 1911 so far.

This is the only suitable Clarice born Cambridgeshire in 1911 that I could find. I wondered if she's simply had her name filled in incorrectly :

1911 looks good. Ticks three boxes .... Clarice - 1895 - & Histon.
1927 - looks spot on. I wonder if she married after reaching Australia?
Thanks for looking.

1933 - maybe lied about her age but otherwise looks spot on. I wonder if she married after reaching Australia?
Thanks for looking.
Bob
The voyage was in 1927 when she was 33 - doesn't that make her born in 1894 ?
There are a couple of possible marriages , without details , on Indexes. It might be worth posting on the Australia board as the RootsChatters there have other resources at their disposal, just make sure to link to your original post.

It appears the SS Bendigo had an accident in transit and the passengers were transferred to another ship, the Balranald.

I'm sorry if I have been evasive. I have read the posts a number of times trying to sort through all these 'Steddys'.
Am I correct in thinking that Claris May Carter arrived in Australia December 1927 aboard the SS Balranald. She possibly married William George Steddy in 1930 and if so she probably died in 1950, age 55 years.
Although there is a record that shows Clarice May Carter living Brookton 1931 - 1943 !!! Is there a death recorded?
All very intriguing.
Bob
Thanks

The other William George STEDDY......
When this man enlisted for WW2 he was not living at Milroy Farm, Brookton with Clarice M STEDDY.
A passenger from Southampton to Fremantle on the ship Jervis Bay who arrived 8 Jan 1932......maybe the chap who went back to the UK for 18 months?
Mr William G STEDDY, a farmer, aged 29.
Country of last residence, England
Intended future residence, Australia.

Hi Bob,
Rhonda May has highlighted some points and further to her thoughts....
Clarice arrived as suggested per Balranald and married in 1930 to William George STEDDY born Canterbury, Kent. {NOT from the STEDDY family of which Edward William STEDDY was patriach}
He returned to Canterbury, Kent arriving in London June 1930 and gave a future address as being the same as 1925 which had been his mother's home.
In 1922 his widowed mother had remarried.
She now has the name of William George STEDDY's next of Kin on enlistment. Alice HARDING.
Marriages Sep 1922
Arthur HARDING
Alice M STEDDY
2a/2494Canterbury
Clarice in Western Australia, reverted to her maiden name of CARTER and was living at a large property in Brookton, Beverley known as Milroy Farm owned by one R L S Crawfrod.
Returning to Australia William was living at Nembudding, a good distance from Brookton. He took some years of his age when he enlisted.
His mother's was HAYWOOD EDIT HAYWARD and this is the maiden surname on this birth.
Births Mar 1902
STEEDY William George
MMN HAYWARD (Matches maiden name on marriage to STEDDY 1900)
Canterbury

I think he was back in England after the war and we can look there for signs of him, but there is a possible re-marriage for him in 1964, well after the death of Clarice.
This death may or may not have relevance to Clarice.
