Hello fellow Rootschatters. Please can someone tell me how to obtain my fathers WW11 service record and how much would it cost? He was born 1911, so would I have to provide evidence of relationship? I have his Soldiers Service and Paybook (Army book 64) this has his Army number in the book. Thanks.

Thanks you so much Rosie99. I will apply in the next few days. I have copies of relevant certificates to authenticate my relationship. I believe it might take some time to get a reply. Fingers crossed. Thank you for your help.

I've just received two army service records from the MoD - took about 3 weeks.

I applied for a record 4th July, they emailed me earlier this week with a query. Hopefully they will see my reply soon and they can progress with it further ;D

You don't have to prove a relationship, kathb. You tick the box for kinship and make the declaration and sign. You will need a death certificate (if he was not killed in action). Really could not be easier.
I received my father's records about two weeks ago and I am still finding gems.
Regards
Chas
