Title: Marriage Wilkinson-King
Post by: fataussie on Sunday 12 August 18 05:58 BST (UK)
Hi
I am hoping someone may be able to help.
I have a Marriage for Jonathan Wilkinson & Charlotte King at St. Michael & All Angels in Bishopwearmouth on 22nd August 1825.
I have not been able to locate an original copy only transcripts.
What I would like to know if it mentions that Charlotte was a widow or not when she married which would confirm what I believe.

Cheers
Bryan

Can't help with an orginal trascript but there is a possiblilty that this is
Mary King born 1817-1821 (estimated) on the 1841 census living with Jonathon and Charlotte Wilkinson.

Hi Whiteout7
Thank you for your reply.
I have researched the King-Ebdy (Adey) connection & this is what I am trying to prove but would like to see if Charlotte was a widow on the possible 2nd marriage. There is a death for a John King in 1824 in HLS so it all seems to tie in.

Cheers

If no one beats me to it and if you would like me to - I will fit in a trip to the Tyne and Wear Archives at some point in the coming weeks to find this out for you.

You don't need to respond if you have managed to get someone else to do this look up.

Image is very faded and poor quality and unfortunately there is no reference to Charlotte as a widow.

Thank you very much for your very quick response to my request.
The result was a little disappointing but not unexpected, with what evidence I already have I believe she was a widow but would have liked final confirmation.
Once again thank you very much for your help.

Cheers

Hi Trish1120
Thank you I have found most of what you have also.
I think the only real evidence to prove it would be that we have a Mary King aged 20 and a daughter Charlotte living with Jonathan & Charlotte in 1841.

I just noticed that you posted while I was typing the exact baptism for William Frederick.
So it looks like a bit more chasing to do.

Even though it didnt say she was widowed I think you are on the right track.

Have you found a Marriage for Mary King born 1818? I have tried to track her and Charlotte in 1851 with nothing conclusive.

If she married hopefully she would name her Father as John King.

Hi Trish1120
I believe this may be them in 1851, it is show as Baleman but later records show Bateman
Name:    Mary Ann Baleman
Age:    32
Estimated Birth Year:    abt 1819
Relation:    Wife
Spouse's Name:    Robt Baleman
Gender:    Female
Where born:    Durham, England
Civil Parish:    Tanfield
Registration district:    Durham(Street Indexed)
Sub-registration district:    Tanfield
ED, institution, or vessel:    1b
Neighbors:
Household schedule number:    91
Piece:    2389
Folio:    37
Page Number:    28
Household Members:
Name    Age
Robt Baleman    36
Mary Ann Baleman    32
Charlotte Baleman    10

This is possibly the Marriage which throws up another question

Name:    Robert Bateman
Registration Year:    1848
Registration Quarter:    Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district:    Houghton le Spring
Inferred County:    Durham
Volume:    24
Page:    164
Mary Ann Eddy ??

I look on Familysearch and the Bishop Transcripts only go to 1847.
I think I need to sit down & sort it out over the weekend. Possibly need to buy Mary Ann's Marriage certificate to see her father.

If you don't mind a wait of up to a few weeks I will look up in the Houghton-le-Spring register for Mary's marriage.
This will be at Tyne and Wear Archives as you can see if you look up on 'User Guides' on the link below.

Yes I thought that was the possible 1851 Census for Mary/Charlotte but didnt match up the Marriage.

Microfilm 908 - Tyne and Wear Archives

St Nicholas, Hetton-le-Hole
Entry 389, Page 195
Writing is debateable on register for Robert's surname but could either be Baleman or Bateman & Mary Ann Eddy
His age 32
Her age 31
Bachelor & Spinster
Robert was a 'Pitman'
Residence for both: Easington Lane
Fathers:
John Baleman or Bateman - Pitman
Charlotte Eddy - Single Woman
Both Robert and Mary Ann signed with their marks
Witnesses - James Young + (J M Paterson?)

This is the first time I have ever come across a female name in the Father's column.

If you also wish to have a photocopy of this record the staff at Tyne and Wear Archives have said they would only charge £7 instead of their usual £30 as if you present all the information presented above this would be classed as straightforward search.

I hope this is helpful for your research. :)

Durham Records Online does have the Wilkinson/King marriage. It would be a transcript but normally they are very good at transcribing. I check all my Durham families through them.

Durham Record Office's fee for the same thing would be £5.00 sent by second class post or email.
