Title: Marsley & Broadstone
Post by: Phil Antony on Monday 13 August 18 10:32 BST (UK)
I have a family member who according to the 1851 census was born in the village of Marsley, Newchurch, and her son was born in Broadstone, Hampshire. I can't find these places referenced on any maps, or doing the usual searches. Anyone come across these places before? Have their names changed?

Thanks

Looking at the 1861 Marsley is an area within the parish of Newchurch (Isle of Wight) possibly Broadstone is the same

There's a Broadstone in Dorset not too far from the pre-1974 Hants / Dorset border

I see your Young family are living on IOW so it more likely it is a place close to Newchurch IOW as Rosie said, unless the mother had relatives on the mainland (mother / sister) and went there for her confinement.

On the 1861, Ann is b Brading and Charles is b Newchurch

There's a Broadstone here, north end of Brading, looks like large house or farm
