Title: Catherine Rogers born 1759 Hodgeston
Post by: davidjkrichards on Monday 13 August 18 19:09 BST (UK)
I am trying to trace Catherine who was baptised on the 14 Jun 1789 & born to Griffith & Mary Rogers.
Unfortunately, I cannot find a marriage nor burial record on either findmypast or Ancestry.

Has anyone any information please?

Probable burial for Griffith aged 68 in Stackpole Elidor 30 Oct 1822, same parish as his marriage to Mary Powell 13 March 1783.
Marriage for Catherine Rogers in Stackpole Elidor 11 Jan 1818 to David Davies, widower, of Llanelly. Marriage by licence, witnesses George Wm Wood & William Powell.
This is more likely to be the Catherine baptised 2 June 1787 in Stackpole Elidor to Griffith & Mary, the one baptised in 1789 was daughter of Thomas Rogers & his wife Mary.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. So sorry. Old age!. It is Catherine Rogers born to Thomas Rogers and Mary Skone that I am interested in. I cannot find a parish record for burial or marriage for her. I am aware of the Catherine married to David Davies. I have been contacted by someone who has a marriage to a George Griffiths at St Michael, Pembroke on 6 Mar 1819 but that Catherine Rogers was also from Stackpole. I am advised that this is from family information and am trying to find evidence.

I am disabled so can't get to the archives.

the only other baptisms in Hodgeston to Thomas & Mary seem to be
Hester bp 19 Jan 1797
Margaret bp 5 March 1799

Possible will for Thomas in 1840 death age 74 march qtr 1840 https://viewer.library.wales/885288#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=0&xywh=-200%2C95%2C2412%2C2501

and then for Mary in 1846 - death age 85 dec qtr 1846
https://viewer.library.wales/451077#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=1&xywh=-14%2C241%2C1895%2C1965
mentions daughters Esther & Elizabeth & grand daughter Esther Morgan, but no Catherine

I was wondering which daughter Esther Morgan belonged to, so from 1841 census

Hodgeston Village HO107/1443/6 folio 3 pg 2
Mary Rodgers 80 farmer
Elizabeth 49
Esther 40
Esther Morgan 25
Esther Griffiths 10
+ 2 servants

1851 Crack Well, Penally HO107/2476 folio 124 pg 2
Elizabeth Rogers 59 farmer of 53 acres/ag lab b. St Florence
Esther Morgans relative 35 farmer's daughter b. Lampha
Martha Coal 17 servant b. Martletwy

1861 Lamphey Village RG9/4152 folio 83 pg 4
Sarah Morgan widow 70 farmer of 16 acres
Esther dau 46
Elizabeth dau 41
Mary Davies farm servant 25
all born Pembs

Esther baptised 14 July 1815 in Lamphey daughter of William & Sarah Morgan
Marriage by licence in Hodgeston 4 Jan 1814 of William Morgan, farmer of Lamphey, and Sarah Rogers of Hodgeston, witnesses Thomas Rogers & Thomas Skone.
1851 census shows Mary's place of birth as St Florence as well.
Baptisms in St Florence
Sarah bp 29 May 1792
Eliza: bp 28 Dec 1793
but still no sign of a burial of Catherine.

The Esther Griffiths age 10 in 1841 census could be another relative. There is a possible for her in 1851 census as a 19 year old workhouse school mistress birthplace St Florence. Haven't spotted a baptism for her as yet.

Thank you for your help. That confirms a lot. It is likely that Catherine Rogers married George Griffiths in St Michael Pembroke on 6 Mar 1819.
