Title: Ellen Monaghan 1911
Post by: truebritmega on Thursday 16 August 18 10:14 BST (UK)
Hello... I'm looking for where my great aunt Ellen is in 1911...

She's born 1893 in Wolverhampton , daughter of William Monaghan and Mary Clarke
I have her in all censuses apart from 1911

She marries a John woller in 1913 in Northumberland.(where she calls herself Helen.(Woller) But I can't find her in 1911

Also, am I able to see her marriage details online? As in to check where it says she was born?

As I've found a possible granddaughter of hers via a ashington colliery forum and she believes she was from gallway Ireland... (Whereas I have her birth certificate and she was actually born in Wolverhampton union workhouse)

I've asked this other person about the hallway thing so I was just backtracking myself while I wait to hear from her

Hope my questions make sense lol

Andy

Marriage details do not give place of birth

Think spell check has tured 'Galway' into 'hallway'  ;D
The only Galway birth I can find (just to rule Ireland out)-
Helen Monaghan 1894-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1894/02235/1842244.pdf

We aren't allowed to do lookups for 1911 census but if you subscribe to Ancestry or Find My Past you can check there. If not, try Framily Search (free).

It took a while to find it!
Could this be the right John Wollers in Hirst, Northumberland, in the free index to 1911?

Yup that's them, but I can't see Ellen... In 1911, i have her up till 1901 in Wolverhampton,  then the 1913 marriage,  then in 1939 reg as Helen wollers 85 Dalton ave lynemoyth.

(And yes, gallway as hallway up there was my phone's spell checker altering it lol)

She is Helen in 1939 register and Helen E on her death. I wonder if the ‘E’ is Ellen as an alternative.

Is there a different address for her on her marriage? (Not the same as her husband’s).
Who were the witnesses to the marriage? Any Monaghans?

Hmmm maybe, a few other points ...I've just checked the Wolverhampton workhouse birth cert I have. Date of birth is 31 may 1893... Exactly the same as 1939 reg.

She has to be somewhere in 1911!! Lol

Throws this in too, tho this is a very wide shot ...
Her youngest sister (my nab)... Told my mom 'you have an aunty in America' .... I've never found that aunt.... Maybe...?

But I doubt Ellen would have gone to America as the family knew of her life in Northumberland..(so only possibility of this fabled aunt in America must be the wife of the eldest brother, William, as he's the only other 'missing' sibling)

Ellen and Helen are interchangeable so not surprised to find her under both names  ;)
