Title: Charlotte & Ivan Rodgers
Post by: maggie.mae on Thursday 16 August 18 14:08 BST (UK)
Afternoon all. This will get the braincells working!

On the 1939 census, Charlotte and Ivan have 4 children, May, William, Eliza and Shirley with one record closed. When I had a look at the actual form, May is "May Haywood", Eliza is "Eliza Smith"
,and Shirley is "Shirley Marriot". Any explanations anyone, please? I thought adopted....evacuees...?

Many thanks
Maggie

The 1939 register (Not a census) was updated until the 1990's as it was used by the NHS.  Womens surnames were amended when they married.

You cannot however guarantee that they updated the womans surname, my mothers has not been done and she did use the NHS  ;D
