Hello ,
I know Ethel Annie Edith Randal married
7 February 1924 • Durban, Natal, South Africa
to George Robert Haddelsey.
and their daughter Ethel Joyce Haddelsey was born 13th Sept 1924 • Natal, South Africa.
George and his daughter were in England in 1939,
I have found him on the 1939 war census.
cannot find his wife or daughter.
in 1947 when his daughter marries the papers say He is a widow ?
just wondered if maybe Ethel Annie Edith Randal had been born in South Africa,
at the moment I do not know where she came from , or who her parents were.

George was 37 , they were both shown as born England.

I can only see George on his own in 1939 , living at 15, Bargate, Grimsby. ???
I cannot see his daughter.

Going by the dates Ethel was pregnant when they married. He was a lot older then her so maybe it didn't work out and they parted ways :-\

Nothing using her exact birth date? Maybe she was still in S Africa :-\
Although it is less than 100 years ago so might not show up anyway.

when did she go to South Africa, or was she born there.
did she come to England with her Husband and daughter .

Hi,
Ethel Joyce Haddelsey is my mother, so Ethel Randal is my grandmother. My grandfather Robert returned to the UK sometime 1924/25, while my mother remained in SA. She returned to the UK I believe after her mother (Ethel Randal) died in around 1927. My grandfather died shortly after my mother was married.
If you are interested I may have some birth certificates from around the early 20's.
If you know anything about how they came to be in Durban I would be interested to know.

It would appear Ethel was prgnant when she got married as a daughter Ethel Joyce was born on the 13/9/1924 and baptised on the 22/11/1924 at St Pauls church Durban. The September quarter 1904 birth registration has a "-" for mother's maiden name.

I don't know much about the Randal(l) side of the family; however the Coates were related.
When my mother returned to the UK she lived with her uncle by marriage Donald Coates on his farm at Hatcliff in Lincolnshire.
