Anc have a record for the embarkation from Liverpool of Mortimer Brownrigg SOMMERS a 28 year old Irish male workman who arrived in New York, New York, USA 27 Aug 1849 on board the John R. Skiddy. [New York, Irish Immigrant Arrival Records, 1846-1851]
i have been unable to locate him through Ellis Island and not sure where else to look so hoping some passenger manifest may survive from England.

UK Passenger Lists only start from 1890 - earlier records were destroyed. :-\

Try searching the Castle Garden website
http://www.castlegarden.org/searcher.php
with the surname Brownrigg-Sommers
(it may be the same record that's on Ancestry though)

Hello Bearkat,
That is wonderful and you also reminded me I have made an assumption. :(
I saw Brownrigg as his middle name and you have seen it as a hyphenated surname. :)
Brilliant and thank you.

I wonder what the original says ???
Ancestry and Castle Garden have only transcriptions.
-
I have only seen transcriptions including the two on FindMyPast.

That's brilliant :)
I can't see a hyphen.
Interesting to see their luggage - a trunk, a box or even a barrel containing their belongings for a new life.

Thanks so much
bearkat Tree spirit. Apologies for the mistake.
The original makes me 'feel' closer. curious.

The passenger list image was found by Tree Spirit. I can't take any credit for it.
