Title: Electoral register **COMPLETED THANKS**
Post by: lydiaann on Sunday 19 August 18 16:35 BST (UK)
I am looking at the Electoral Register for 1937 for Glasgow - St Rollox Division - Polling District O - 17th Municipal Ward.  The lady in question, Harriet McGillivray's entry is:

Under Cowcaddens Street:

1060 (presumably the electoral no. as they are consecutive), then 40 (presumably house no.) then the single letter D, then McGillivray, Harriet.

What would the 'D' mean please?  Quite a few people have it against their name.

But it's against a woman's name, and several other women are annotated thus on the page?

If you go back to Page 262  (Harriet is page 268) It states Letter D - Vote at Parliamentary elections only

Thanks so much, Rosie; that explains it.  I never thought to flip backwards!

It is like a census, very often the answer is at the beginning of the 'book'  ;D

Glad it is solved
