Title: George POWELL - descendants UK?
Post by: kr236rk on Tuesday 21 August 18 02:09 BST (UK)
Hi,

George POWELL was known as 'King of the Gypsies' in south London, he died circa 1704-6 and was buried in St Mary's Churchyard [Newington], Southwark. George was associated with the Old Kent Road area and a road known as Bird Cage Alley which was in the Parish of St. George the Martyr. I have also come across a 'hawker' James POWELL, born 1853, Southwark, St George Martyr, London - so this looks like a descendant of George living in the same parish, fifty years on.

Does anyone have anything more on the Southwark POWELL surname please?

Thank you :)
