Title: NEWMAN, Elizabeth; JONES, Thomas
Post by: smurf on Tuesday 21 August 18 09:40 BST (UK)
Looking for Elizabeth Newman from Great Bedwyn. she married Thomas JONES.
Any info on them please is much appreciated.

They emigrated to South Australia where daughter Alice was born in 1864. There was also a George Newman mentioned in the family bible.

Thanks

You don't say when Elizabeth was born.

There is a Harriet Newman (bn1849) George (1852) and James (1855) in Little Bedwyn with their widowed mother Ann Newman and grandmother Mary Chivers in 1861

Sorry i have no idea when she was born. IN the bible though there was a George Newman mentioned so sounds like a good possibility.

Hi,

There are the following christenings in Great Bedwyn that may be helpful:-

19/1/1831 George and James Newman (twins) sons of Richard and Ann, carpenter, East Grafton.

19/1/1833 Elizabeth Newman d/o Richard and Ann, carpenter, East Grafton.

This is probably the parents marriage:-

28/12/1830 Richard Newman bachelor of this parish and Ann Jackman spinster of this parish. Also in Great Bedwyn.

I have looked for a marriage for Elizabeth Newman and Thomas Jones and have only found one in Liverpool for Thomas Abraham Jones and Elizabeth Newman Jun.1855 vol.8b page.74

Perhaps they sailed from Liverpool to Australia and got married first ??

The 1841 has the family I found earlier plus Elizabeth Newman age 8

HO107 /1180 bk1 f53 p4

They are in the household of George & Elizabeth Jackman so that would fit with the marriage PtE found  ;D

Did they necessarily get married in the U.K. Could they have married in South Australia??

No sign of a marriage in South Australia.

On the other hand there is an Elizabeth Newman daughter of George marry a Robert French in Great Bedwyn.
Elizabeth Newman, daughter of George Newman married Robert French on 14 April 1851 in Little Bedwyn, Wiltshire, England (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/MVNC-6BP and https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NX9Z-1ZK

It appears this Elizabeth marries a Thomas Jones in 1864 in Adelaide.

wondering if that might work?

another add...it appears Elizabth was given a bible at school in 1837 so she cant be the Jackman one cos she would have onlybeen 4.

If she married Thomas over here then he could have come from anywhere..bugger thanks for looking though guys.
