Hello
I have hit a brickwall with a George H Vincent born sept quarter 1915 in Newcastle upon Tyne.
His parents were George Thomas Vincent and Mary Culley lived Elswick Newcastle upon Tyne.
I have searched all the marriage certs I can and death ones but can find nothing.
Searched passenger lists but no joy there.
I must be looking in the wrong places. Hoping someone can help me with this problem.

Are you looking for more information about George Vincent b. 1915, or about his parents?
His parents' marriage is easily found on freeBMD.
-
There is a George H Vincent born August 1915 (hence would fit the Q/E Sept 1915 birth) -- on the 1939 Register -- living in Crosby, Liverpool.
It is of course possible that it is a different George H Vincent -- but the one in Northumberland seems to be the only one in the country born in that quarter end and year.
-
Its the son George H I am seeking.
Thank you for the info on where he is for that year I have just been searching Northumberland
-
I will start searching Crosby area.
-
Its the son George H I am seeking.
If you know his exact date of birth you can do a search on the 1939 register to see if the one Pennines found is your man.
-
The one in Crosby has given a birth date of 5th Aug 1915.
-
The one in Crosby sounds like the one people did move around and it was war years.
-
Strange - as there is a death (Mar/Ap/MAy1976) for a George ALBERT Vincent with dob 5th Aug 1916 in Crosby.
Is the 1939 entry def George H, or could it be George A?
-
The one in Crosby sounds like the one
I would want much more evidence. I am not convinced that the middle initial is 'H'.
-
I have just checked there were barracks near Crosby but I do know George H was born Sept Quarter Newcastle upon tyne may of been in Elswick area.
-
There is a George Vincent (no middle initial) who died in Q1 1917 aged 1, Newcastle on Tyne.
I'd stick that in the 'possibles' box to explore if nothing else comes up and then if I was really stuck would ask for a checking point and say that I wanted the cert if it is a match with the father being George Thomas.

There is one George H with the mother Mary Culley sept quart.1915 NUT.
Father George Thomas mother Mary Culley George Thomas parents were James Vincent and Mary
George Thomas had a brother James Vincent all born in NUT.
-
There is one George H with the mother Mary Culley sept quart.1915 NUT.
A check of the new gro index confirms him to be George Henry.
-
Thank you never thought of that just thought I had to buy the certificate as I have quite few I have bought in the past and not turned out to be the right people.
-
Thank you for the Henry bit having full name helps more.
-
Bear in mind when searching the 1939 register, that your George Henry was born in 1915 and if he was in the forces in September 1939 he will not be listed.
I'd look for his parents (unless you already know they died before then?) and see where they were living, then I'd try the Newcastle electoral rolls on Ancestry for just before and just after the war.
If you don't have a sub to ancestry then your local library may well provide access on the premises.

Thank you for all this info I have learnt a lot so will definitely be busy tonight.

The one in Crosby in 1939 has been transcribed as George H. -- however when I increase the actual image the middle initial does look more like an A. than an H -- as JenB says.
Strangely though - there was no George A. Vincent born in Q/E Sep 1915, to fit the birth date of the one living in Crosby (5 Aug 1915). So that's a bit of a mystery -- I am probably missing it, but can't see a George Albert Vincent or a George A. Vincent born in Q/E Sep 1916 - to fit the death in Crosby.
Hence there may be an error in the birth year of the one dying in Crosby. Just an added frustration.
It would be boring if it went smoothly!
-
So true and this mans search has been round so many corners.

Have you discounted this death. I can't see another birth in the area that it would match or do you know that he survived infancy.
-
I am counting the one who died as I can find nothing out for him
Am thinking of trying for his parents wills it may show me more info.
-
If this was his fathers death I can't see a will

Thanks for this info no joy there with a will I know his brother James who died in 1965 left everything to George so was hoping he may of done as well.
Why we are searching is to find what happened to WW1 medals for a POW who is now dead to.
-
When did James write his Will? If George is the sole beneficiary, then George must have been alive when the Will was written. Therefore unlikely George died in 1917 age 1!
When was James born - older or younger than George?
Or are we talking about a different James ….. I was assuming you meant George Henry's brother, but maybe you are meaning George Henry's Uncle, ie George Thomas's brother.
-
No sorry meant George Thomas James brother.
-
James died Sept 1965 he was born 1893
-

Do you actually have James's Will or are you just taking information from the probate index. I see George T was the sole executor (not necessarily the sole beneficiary)
-
I have his will I am in the process of emailing the said solicitors to see if this is the exact will I have.
I did purchase it from the said solicitors.
-
I don't understand why the other people aren't named
-
I did purchase it from the said solicitors.
? ? ?
Seems highly irregular for a solicitors to SELL a copy of a clients Will!
-
James was an uncle I never knew his brother George as we moved from Newcastle when I was 8yrs.
-
I purchased my uncle James and aunt Marys wills from solicitors to.
-
I have also purchased other relatives wills to help with family history.
-
May I ask what the solicitors charge for a copy :-[
-
They varied charged £15 for an uncle and only £10 for his wife have paid as much as £20 for my late husbands brother.

No idea what you paid the solicitors for it, or when, but if you are paying more than £10 currently for copies of wills from solicitors then I advise you to order online from the Probate Service
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
You will get not only a copy of the will (if one existed) but also a copy of the grant which will be the most up to date info in relation to the will and then you will know who carried out the probate and where they lived at that time - which can be really useful

-
That sounds heaps better from now on that's what I will be doing but you gain so much family history from wills.
-
Yes I love old wills they can be really informative, but they are expensive enough at £10 without paying even more for them.

Just noticed the nam Culley.
It may be totally irrelevant but the name Culley is an important one in Northumberland. Culley Brothers were important agriculturalists and are known for developing the Border Leicester sheep. Most of Fowberry was owned by the brothers and families including the village of Fowberry, Fowberry Manor, Fowberry Tower and Fowberry Mains. My great great grandfather's family were tenants of Fowberry Mains for generations before and after 1830, and his wife was from Fowberry Tower. I often see mention of Culley family members when searching Northumberland.
