Title: Death registered in Northumberland Central in 1982- which newspapers.
Post by: candleflame on Thursday 23 August 18 12:24 BST (UK)
Hi all
I have a potential death entry for a person who died registered in Northumberland Central in 1982. I've seen the list of areas that that area covers on freebmd, but we don't know where they were living after 1939.
Does anyone have any bright ideas about which newspapers death announcements I could have a look at that might be useful for that vast area?
Many thanks

The Blyth News or Evening Chronicle is about your best bet, The Leader-- a local paper may have, but but none are online . If you care to give details of the person or persons , maybe someone  could
  help ... Dolly

Hi

Is there no (home) address on the death certificate?
You may be lucky.

Have you checked to see if there is a probate entry for this person?
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#calendar

I've just looked at a couple for 1982 and the address of the deceased is still included in the details at that time.

Other than that I have just tried setting up a (free) search on British Newspapers Archive.
Filtering by year of 1982 and region of North East England shows the only online newspapers they have for that year are the Newcastle Journal and the Newcastle Evening Chronicle (don't discount them, the Chronicle readership spread far and wide)
From my recent attempts to find notices in the Chronicle around that time, they are so badly scanned that searching by name did not bring up any results. When I tried going through all the editions for the year and quarter I was looking for, I could just about read the names in the deaths notices and did eventually find some of what I was looking for and be able to more or less decipher the text. Human eyes are a lot better than OCR!
