Hi All,
We were discussing the Pope's visit to Scotland in 1982, and remembered Uncle John Christopher Conroy died the first day of Pope John Paul II's visit. We had family stories that he was born in Youghal, Cork, but never had proof. I looked up Ancestry and found one that was born in the quarter Oct-Nov-Dec 1926, which fits perfectly. The Scottish Death Certificate says his mothers maiden name was O'Donnell, but think that could be incorrect.
Would the Irish Birth Certificate give Parents details, and are they available online?

Is it purely for Family Research?
Or to get Irish Passport? Official uses?
-
The years covered by the release of the historic Indexes to the Civil Records of Births, Marriages and Deaths ONLINE are:
Births: 1864 to 1916
Marriages: 1845* to 1941
Deaths: 1864 to 1966

Hi Hallmark,
It is for family research, my mother in law, who is now deceased, went to Dublin to get her birth certificate, had great difficulty, as she had been registered as Mary Savage instead of Mary Conroy. Her father had changed name to join Army as he was under age, found out that was incorrect.
Just found out that Uncle John Conroy, her brother, had a middle name Christopher, and found a birth in Cork in Oct - Dec Qtr 1926 in Ancestry, and would like a certificate to get both parents names. Family stories, say they were in a convent/orphanage in Youghal as mother had died and father was in Army.

you could find 5 or 6 that "match".....

You can't buy a research copy online only by using the link hallmark posted.
You can buy a certified one online but it's a lot more expensive

What do you think it should be??

Hi Hallmark,
Yes, I suppose I could get 5 or 6, but the Scottish Death Certificate, gave us his middle name, and mother's maiden name, O'Donnell, and birthplace of Cork, which is nearly as family stories had told me. It is one brick wall that I would really love to break down. My wife's grandfather had kept lots if secrets from his offspring, nobody knew what he did, it would be great to solve.

We think she may have been McDonald or Macdonald, some family think she may have been born in Greenock

Marriages: to 1941 are online
-
Have you any idea of the mothers first name?
If a death of a woman of that name, solider wife could be found, it might be possible to find the marriage.
They should both be online.

C REG Marriage results for Conroy from 1916 to 1926 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01mlc/

I don't think any clue to father or mother's first names have been posted!

Hi,
Her first name was Elizabeth. His name could be Michael Conroy, or John Savage or Michael Savage. We do not know why he used different names, but he did.

Did you look through the Marriages I posted??

Hi All.
I was away doing the same searches as you Hallmark, none of the results caught my eye. If I get the birth certificate, I will get the parents names of that, I will have definite entry for searches.
I will contact Roscommon after weekend, and get copy. Thanks for all your time and advice, much appreciated.

I haven't looked through them, just posted the results of the search.....

Do you live in Ireland?

Hi Tom,
I've noticed names in the past as possible variants of Conroy & worth checking;
Conroy/Convoy/Conboy
I can see an 'r' resembling a 'v' but a 'b' possibly misheard :-\

going to

Thanks Hallmark!
Although for Tom's benefit, I didn't know irishgenealogy had a 'wildcards' facility & have never tried it (I don't think) nor have I noticed whether they tell you so?
SP records give all sorts of variations for searching with a 'dropdown' list of choices which is 2nd to none (thankfully)!

Hi All,
Thanks for these results, I didn't realise they were so many pages. I never seen one that could easily fit. I am in East Kilbride, Scotland. I am not looking to get an Irish passport as some of my family are trying to do. I will contact Roscommon on Monday, and get the registered birth parents names of John Christopher Conroy.
I appreciate all your efforts.

O'Donnell and McDonald are interchangeable so different versions of the name may have been used in different records. Sometimes when Irish families move to Scotland they start using a form of their name more commonly used in Scotland. For example, Ellen in Ireland becoming Helen in Scotland is very common.

Hi Aghadowey,
I am open to this suggestion, but I have no idea of where they were married. Family historians (hearsay) says that he was in the Army, so he could have been married anywhere. Elizabeth O'Donnell? was supposed to have died, maybe in Belfast, funeral cortege met an Orange Parade, and result was not too nice. We suspect after 1930 found a death in Belfast , 12th July 1934, said she was 26yo but did not give maiden name.
How they ended up in an orphanage run by nuns in Youghal, Co Cork, I know not. About 8 years old, the future mother in law (born September 1928), moved back to Scotland, and was raised by aunts.
etc.
Thought I would give as much info that I have (or haven't got) already.
