Hi all
I'm trying to find a birth for Elsie may forester c1905 Whitchurch shropshire ? She later went on to marry a Thomas Hodgkiss in farnworth Lancashire. She died in 1984?

I was told my a family member she was Born in Whitchurch. And then moved to farnworth Bolton Lancashire and married a Thomas Hodgkiss and they lived at Kent st in farnworth Lancashire. I found her on the census.
I'm just hitting brick walks trying to find her birth so I could get the parents names to work back from. Sorry I'm a amateur at this .

It would appear that she was illegitimate.
There is a marriage of a Lily Forrester q4 1905, Mt Drayton, Vol 6a Page 1499. She married Frederick Clews.

The date of the baptism of 25 Apr 1905 is not the same as her birth date. No birth date recorded on the baptism.
Have you found Elsie on the 1939 register which will confirm her date of birth?

There is a marriage of a Lily Forrester q4 1905, Mt Drayton, Vol 6a Page 1499. She married Frederick Clews.

This would mean Elsie was born before her mother Lilly got married to this Frederick clews? Could he also be the father? Hmmm is there any info of Lilly and Frederick parents in their marriage details ? Also how did my Elsie end up moving from Shropshire to Lancashire ?

There is no mother’s maiden name for Elsie May and the baptism I gave only gives her mother.
Martha and Thomas Owens did not marry until 1907.

John Hodgkiss birth registered Farnworth sub district 1932 . It's on Lancashire BMD www.lancashirebmd.org.uk which is where I found registrations of 10 other Hodgkiss births with mother's maiden name Forester. Possibly death of one as an infant in 1943.
Names + dates of birth of John Hodgkiss and some of his siblings should be on 1939 Register but may be redacted (blacked out) as they may have been alive when the Register was released for public viewing a decade ago.
The 2 baptisms at a Methodist chapel from Lancashire Online Parish Clerks don't match the birth registrations of any of John's possible siblings. Parents of those 2 were Thomas and Nelly and they lived in Kearsley.

Parents as per 1871 - John & Martha.
1871 has the following children for John & Martha all born Whitchurch
Sarah J Bryan c1862
Mary c1864
Martha c 1866
John E c1870
You need to use the GRO index https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp to locate their birth registrations. It will show mothers maiden name against the entry - that is Martha's surname. It is good to practice ;D
Then use freebmd to search for a marriage for a Martha .... to a John
