Hello! I have been researching the Mellin line of my family for many years and just cannot find where my 5times great grandfather was born, on his marriage cert 1805 to Sarah Edwards it states of this parish for both I have been through the church records from the early 1700 both death and marriage but have failed to find any MELLIN, Samuel Mellin was born 1779 and died in1834 age 55yrs,, information taken off his gravestone at St Thomas churchyard Neath Glamorgan .Today I found a Samuel Peplow Mellin buried at St Michael's parish Bristol.in 1773 as this name has been carried on through each generation of this family just wondered if there could be a connection , any information on this SAMUEL PEPLOW MeLLIN would be appreciated, Many thanks Margaretx :)

Unless you are looking at a different Mellin/Edwards marriage.......
I can see the original marriage record which says:-
Samuel Mellin of the parish of Lantwit near Neath, bachelor, and Sarah Edwards of this parish, spinster....
married on 26th May 1805 - witnesses appear to be Mary and Edward Howell and I think the surname of the other two is Lewis but it is difficult to read.
Married by John Griffiths Curate.
Forgot to say that they were married at St.Thomas, Neath

It appears that the Peploe/Peplow name went down the line. Entering Samuel Mellin shows up quite a few.
It may be that your particular line came from Glamorganshire.
Here is a birth record for one from 1893 which you may already have:-
MELLIN, SAMUEL PEPLOE TAMPLIN
GRO Reference: 1893 M Quarter in NEATH Volume 11A Page 860

The details of his parish only means he was living there at the time, not that it was his home parish.

the first witness is Edwd Lewis. Second one is harder.

A James Mellin married a Jane Peploe 16/6/1771 Bristol, Gloucestershire.
With the burial you found there for 1773 looks like this couple could be your Samuel's parents.

As the MELLIN's occupations were Painters - they could have travelled anywhere!
Saml PEPLOE MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, Bristol - 23 August 1773
Family Search (burials)
Mary MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, Bristol : 11 December 1765
Ann MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, Bristol : 21 November 1769
Mary MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish: December 1765
Mary MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, 4 April 1766

The original Parish Registers may give ages/residence etc.
The Bristol Records Office online Will's Catalogue doesn't list any PEPLOE(W)s or MELLIN

Thank you Girl Guide,Annette7,Osprey and Captown for your input to my query I have been searching this family for 30+ yrs and have been lucky enough to put all the pieces together my only brick wall is finding the birthplace of my 5x g/grandfather but it looks like Annette has possible found the parents James Mellin and Jane peploe. Yes Captown my greatgrandfather John Mellin was a painter/artist/sculptor and his father also Samuel was a painter but most of Samuel 1779 sons were blacksmiths. Thank you all now to find Samuel Peploe birth..

Hello Osprey,, I do have all the information on the MELLINS in the neath area but can`t find that Samuels b1779 m 1806 to Sarah Edwards in St Thomas`s church Neath birth records but Annette found a marriage for a James Mellin to Jane Peploe in Bristol which might be his parents, and there was a death in 1773 of a Samuel peploe mellin I wonder if this has been recorded as a death instead of a birth? over the years of research I have found that some vicars put birth and deaths on the same page in the register many thanks Margaret.

As Capetown said, the records are on FamilySearch and you would need to check the originals for extra info. The records are from the time when it wasn't unusual for baptisms & births to be recorded on the same page.
