Title: Looking for help - Stella Mary Francis DONNELLY d. NZ 2018
Post by: oceaneyes6201 on Monday 03 September 18 08:51 BST (UK)
Hey everyone, I'm super new here, and really have no idea how this works, so if this is in the wrong place or whatnot, please tell me! I'm looking for information on my family, who came to New Zealand in the earlyish 1900's.

She was born Stella Mary Francis Donnelly, and married Gerard O'Reilly, who was a lawyer. I know that she was an only child, but Gerrard, her husband, had a twin brother. Gerard was from Cavan, however I believe they lived in Dublin at some point. Issue of 10 Children, including (*). I believe Hugh was born in Ireland, not sure about others. Remarried Charlie (*) later in life after the death of Gerard in early 1967 (In New Zealand by now)

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

places to start looking are to confirm which children were born in NZ

https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search

and newspapers

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

also at BDMs you would hope to see the death certs which if you order, MAY have the names of their parents (if the informant knew them) and also how long they had been in NZ so you can perhaps then find them on a ship

Welcome to Rootschat, Oceaneyes.

Looks like none born in NZ.

if Gerard O'Reilly died in 1967, the only one on the NZ BDM site that year is Gerard Joseph O'Reilly and he is 46, so born about 1921. So if married in Ireland, must have come to NZ in the 50s
So.... is that the correct death?  Did he die in another country?

edit, corrected my maths!

If he married in the 40s there is a chance that the children are still living.

Oceaneyes, Rootschat is for seeking information on deceased only. Therefore, you will need to remove the children’s names from your original post, if you don’t have confirmation of their deaths.

date of birth 21 December 1932 (according to BDMS)
those children must definitely still be alive.

Marriages on the Ireland site https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/what-civil-records-are-on-line  only go up to 1941

Hi Oceaneyes6201, and welcome to RootsChat  :) :)

I've edited your initial post to remove the names of probably living children, but don't let that put you off the hunt! 8)

They are a very determined mob of researchers on the New Zealand Board and I'm sure they'll be able to help.

Good hunting,

Spades, you left a son that is still living, but removed daughter Miriam, who was born in NZ, and is deceased.

This is as per Stella’s death notice.

Hello Oceaneyes6201,

Is it just your grandmother about whom you are seeking information? Or younger members of the family also? We are of course not able to put up names of the living but information can be exchanged through the personal messaging system. After you have posted one more message......
