Title: Pontllanfraith, Wales Church or other local Records
Post by: BruceWorke on Wednesday 05 September 18 17:49 BST (UK)
William (1886) and Fanny (1882) Tithecott of Springfield Cottages Llanarth road in Pontllanfraith 1914-1925-likely attended the Wesleyan or similar church in Pontllanfraith. William was a Haulier in a nearby Colliery. Would there still be records: of William and Fanny and their children: Fred abt 1910, Daisy abt 1914, Annie (Nancy) 1916, William (Bill) 1920?

Hi,
Welcome to Rootschat  :)
William, Fanny and Fred appear to be in Bideford, Devon in 1911.
www.freebmd.org.uk  would appear to have Frederick Vernon Tithecott born Dec quarter 1909 in Bideford, Annie M and William J born 1916 and 1920 mmn Trick born Newport Mon registration district.
William Tithecott and Fanny Trick married in Torrington Devon 1908
Can t find Daisy at the moment
The 1939 register available on Findmypast and I think Ancestry could give their dates of birth.
Apologies if you know all this already.
Are you just interested in that timeframe and records just from Pontlanfraith?
If so someone on here possibly might be able to help.
Cathy

I wonder!

"Daisy Belle Perry, she was born February 6, 1915 in Monmouthshire, Wales. She was a bondservant & came to Canada from Wales in 1923 with William & Fanny Tithecott."

"Daisy Bell Parry was born Feb 6,1915 at or near Pontllanfraith,Monmouthshire,Wales to an unwed mother. She was "given" to William & Fanny Tithecott circa 1915 and then they emigrated to Canada."

What her birth registration might have been is mysterious!

Although bond servant could imply she wanted to be with the family.

Maybe?

Update: ruled out dies in 1915 aged 0.

You have this record?

Daisy Tithecott going to Canada on the "Canopic".
Birth Year 1915
Age 10
The ship left from Liverpool in 1925 and arrived at Halifax

All the other Tithecott children you mention are on the "Canopic" as well
Perhaps the family informally took her on/adopted her and they couldn't very well travel with a Daisy Perry aged 10, it would have looked wrong!

DNA from "Daisy Belle Perry" could be quite interesting!

Hi,
Yes, I'm specifically interested in anything on Daisy Tithecott 1914-1925 in Pontllanfraith, Wales. There will surely be school records and likely some traces of Church records connected with the William and Fanny Tithecott family. The first reference, sent to me some time ago, listing Daisy's birthdate is at her initial entrance to the Pontllanfraith infant's school on 9 April 1918. Her birthdate was listed as 6 May 1914. What I'm looking for is some corroborating evidence of her birthdate and additional information from Pontllanfraith (girls department) school, Church or other local records so I can begin looking for a birth certificate. As far as I can tell, the 20 March 1925 Canopic ship manifest lists Daisy's age as 10 but does not give the actual birthdate. I do know that Daisy was never adopted by the Tithecott's although they raised her from infancy to adulthood. It is true she Daisy used the surname Perry on some legal documents after she was 21. So the Perry surname is one I'm pursuing. But for now, I'm looking for specific help with traces of Daisy 1914-1925 in Pontllanfraith, Wales. The home location was with William and Fanny Tithecott at Springfield, Llanarth Road, Pontllanfraith. (Springfield cottages...not sure which # though. Thank you so much!

John and Sophia Parry married 1866 then lived in Blackwood, Newport so likely Sophia Parry (born to maiden name Parry in Newport 1914) was a decendant (granddaughter?)

There is a Margaret Parry born in 1869 in Pontllanfraith (husband unknown) perhaps she is your Parry/Perry link to Pontllanfraith?

Margaret Eleanor Parry born 1896 in Blackwood, mothers maiden name Williams would have been about 19 years in 1915 - a suspect for Sophia Parry's mother perhaps?

The original posting from an unknown source about Daisy being a bondservant etc has significant errors:
Now, I offer some actual verified evidence: the earliest and best evidence of Daisy's birthdate is sourced from Pontllanfraith infant school records: 6 May 1914. Her birthplace as sourced by the Canopic Ship's manifest 20 March 1925 at Liverpool is specifically "Monmouth." And her age is given as 10. She is listed as a Tithecott Daughter on the ship's manifest although she was never adopted. Now, family lore is that Daisy was taken in by the Tithecott's as an infant from a young unrelated woman. There are specific reasons why I firmly believe there is no biological connection to either William of Fanny's family. I would not pursue the William "Tithecott" or Fanny "Trick" line at this point. Nor was Daisy's mother a close and or valued friend of the Tithecott's. I've sent for Ancestry DNA kit and we are having 4 other family members checked to hopefully at least finally rule this out or in.
I am interested in pursuing the surname Perry because Daisy used it on some official documents after she turned 21. And I appreciate all the names you all have suggested connecting to Perry. They will help in an advanced search...Sorry, I don't have more facts to offer. I've just paid Gwent Archives to take another in-depth look at Daisy's school records in Pontllanfraith. In fact, all the Tithecott children attended there. William Tithecott drove a mining truck nearby- I assume this was part of his wartime service-1914-1918. The Family would have gone to church and I have sent off some emails but have received no responses. Is there anyone local who could call nearby Pontllanfraith protestant churches for traces of the Tithecott family and Daisy? Likely Wesleleyn of Presbyterian. I know that's asking a lot and is going a long way back 1914-1925! The Tithecott family including Daisy lived at Springfield Cottages, Llanarth Road, Pontllanfraith Wales. Emigrated to Canada via Liverpool Canopic Ship 20 March 1925. It's Daisy's birth origin I'm seeking to discover! Thanks, everyone!
