Title: marriage Kill, Ireland 1873
Post by: SOFEE on Saturday 08 September 18 13:49 BST (UK)
hi
Im looking for a bit of help trying to trace a marriage that took place in Ireland?

I got this info from their sons birth records  although had trouble deciphering it and with the help of the good people on this site managed to decipher the marriage [this is the original post to decipher]
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=799760.msg6573372#msg6573372

the marriage took place between John King & Ann Evan in February 1873. Kill, Ireland

their first son James was born on 21 March 1874,  Drum, Mon, Ireland [according to the record  i got on ancestry].if that helps?... all their other children were born in East Kilbride Lanarkshire Scotland.

thanks for taking the time to read this and maybe help find this marriage and perhaps this will lead me to find  their parents.
thanks
Sofee

Wonder if other Scottish birth certificate would give different marriage details for the parents?

I would say there's a good chance the marriage details would be more specific on a Scottish birth cert. as I've found in the past?

Informant was Mary King.

Kilsherdany RC parish Co. Cavan, 27 February 1874, John King married Ann Evans, John Glenn and Susan King were witnesses.

Lots of info online about the variant spellings for this (Kilsherdany) and also being a.k.a. Kildrumsherdan (and variant spellings).

'Kilsherdany' RC parish, 22 March 1874, James King was baptised for parents given as John King and Ann Evans of 'Dooharrick', the sponsors were Pat Martin and Ann Tierney.

Maybe Doocarrick townland?

hi gaffy
Now that sounds promising  Kilsherdany, RC parish Co. Cavan 27 feb  1874?  on all the childrens birth records it definitely says 1873 but i know that can go for nothing sometimes
the KIL for  Kilsherdany would be a possible? maybe? its the nearest so far

Note the townland of Largy or Forthenry immediately southwest of Doocarrick, the OSI 6" mapping series (1837-42) shows a place named Largy within that townland:

That couple also had a son Bernard at Largy in 1869:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1869/03371/2235840.pdf

Michael King and Margaret King got married on 2 March 1867 in Kilsherdany RC parish. The church record shows that one of the winesses was a Susan King - the same name cropped up as a witness to the 1874 John King - Ann Evans marriage.

Unlike the 1874 John King - Ann Evans marriage, I can see a civil record listed for the 1867 Michael King - Margaret King marriage, it would be worth checking the registration image for addresses and fathers' details on the 'IrishGenealogy' website when it becomes available (imminently, if reports are accurate).
