I am stuck! need help please to go farther. Dennis Edward Brennan b. abt. 1866 in Briggs Main. He was a police constable for Newcastle. Dennis married Mary McGrady b. 1867 and they had eight children all born in Newcastle - Ellen b. abt 1894, Charles James b. abt 1892, Susan Jane b. abt 1897, William Terence b.abt 1900, Francis Cornelius b. abt 1903, Lawrence Alphonos b. abt 1906, Henry Leo b. abt 1909.
Need help finding Dennis Edwards Brennan b. 1866 parents, please. Also his wife Mary McGrady's parents . Thanks

The marriage certificate for Dennis and Mary should give both their fathers names as a starting point if you can't find birth registrations for either of them.
Closest birth I can see is Dennis Brannan Jun 1866 Tynemouth mothers name Cavannah but this may be a completely different person.
What birth place does Mary have on census please?

Long Horsley is Marys place of birth. She and Dennis got married in 1892 Castle Ward. They lived in the sub district of Byker. I do not have their marriage certificate and on the transcript that I have there are no father's names.
I came across christening transcripts I think it is their children. It looks like the names are written in Latin. Henricus Leo Brennan Newcastle- upon- Tyne christened 16 May 1909 St.Dominic. the parents names are written as Dionysii Eduwardi Brennan and Mariae Mcgrady.
As for Dennis Edward Brennan's birth registration I have not been able to find it either.
Just found a transcript for Mary McGrady's birth. It is the only one I can find so must be her's. Baptized on the 17 Feb 1867 Long Horsley. Farther's name Charles McGrady and mother Judith McGrady.

Marriage is on Family Search
16-1-1892
Bell's Close Northumberland
his father Jacobi Brennan
her parents Hugh Callerton & Caroli McGrady
-
I have just looked at the microfilm no. 1961 at Tyne and Wear Archives at the marriage at St George RC Church at Bells Close.
It records that Dionisium? Edwardum Brennan 'ex Police Station, Elswick son of Jacobi Brennan and Mariam McGrady daughter of Caroli McGrath ex High Gallery in
Witnesses were:
Jacobo McGrady ex High Callerton
Maria Anna Shaw ex Bells Close
Therefore, I think her parent was not 'Hugh' - this refers to the area Mary was from.
I wonder if father 'Caroli' means that he may have been Carl?
Amended: Caroli could mean Charles.

Did find this...

Karytay,

I would suggest contacting Tyne and Wear Archives. They do hold some police records and I believe it is possible to access these following certain procedures. I.e. proving the person is dead, filling out forms etc.
See the above website and look under user guides then 'law and order' to see all records which this archives hold.

I have found the baptism you mentioned at St Dominic RC Newcastle
Besides the information you already have got on their son Henry the record also records that he was born on 22 April 1909 and home address looks like 'Benton (Bridge?) Jesmond Dene.'
Godparents Michael Mc(?) & Maria McGrath

River Tyne Lass, looking at the baptism again I think it is the right one. For the address is the same on the census. So now I will have to see who the witnesses are. Possible relatives.

Looking for Mary Mc Grady on Family Search I came across an 1881 England census for a Charles Mc Grady and a Susan Mc Grady. Which I feel could be Mary's Parents, why? a few things, one the place Callerton High same as some other records. Also Castle Ward were Mary and Dennis Edward Brennan were married. Then the name Susan is also the name of a daughter of Mary.
Could this be correct, have I finally found Mary's connection?

One more thing on the transcript it has Bilk Heads, Northumberland. Where is this place, looked it up on Google but nothing came up.

Hi Milliepede, thanks for feedback. The McGrady name certainly get spelt differently no wonder it is confusing. I have come across the name as Grady or O'Grady as well.
It could be Mary in Rothbury
