I have ancestors in my tree with the surname Brotherton who came from the Nelson/Brierfield area of Lancashire, and emigrated to South Africa and I have been unable to find any records for any of them.

I do not know when they emigrated to South Africa.
if anyone can help it will finish of loose ends in my tree.

Sorry I would look for you but those names are not clearly set out. ;)

I got rather lost among all those names with limited personal data and no indication how every one relates to each other. Maybe it would be better to divide them into bite size pieces eg family groups. Give the information that is already known for one family (parents, place/date of birth, partners etc) in one post ... wait a bit for responses..., and after a while repeat for another group. I'd expect that you would get better results.

Unfortunately I can't be sure as you haven't given this explicit information ... and it would be a waste to spend time on something that is most likely already known.

I do not know when they emigrated to South Africa.
According to the list of children born to the marriage they must have gone 1864 /65. Passenger lists from the UK around this time do not exist

It seems that my search for the Brotherton is causing to much trouble for you I have got already some info from family search what I really want to close my loose ends are the deaths for these people and these I cannot find on family search thought by putting the topic on South Africa board I may have got some answers, I am related to the Brotherton through the Landless line and these dates are the only missing info I need, I have spent many years since retirement doing my family tree and I have traced back to 1209 the Landless side.
So I will just have to leave the loose ends.

No it is certainly not causing too much trouble. Until now you were saying you had not found any information on them when what you are now asking for is their deaths.

We are trying to help but obviously don't want to spend time looking for information that is freely available and that you may already have. As I said in my last post let us know what else you can't find and hopefully we will be able to help you find their deaths.

I have just put Richards children on I was told in a previous post just to put on one family at a time
I have children names and births for 4 of Richards children which have come from a Landless connection but they do not have any more info
His son George had 3 children but I have no wife

Suggest having a look at the following site http://www.graves-at-eggsa.org/main.php. Definitely some graves that belong to you. Some might be sons of sons - only had a quick look. If you struggle with the site, I'll send you step by step instructions (there is one small hiccup in one spot.).

Thanks I have just looked at the page and have been able to at least put some deaths in my tree, so that is a few more loose end finished.

I also noticed a wife buried with husband that belonged to you as well. At the top of the page it will give you the province and town were buried, you could try and contact local museums for any further info.
Keep in mind: 1. Many graves in South Africa have been damaged / decimated, so not always head stones.
2. Local town municipalities should have maps of plots BUT in many cases no interest is shown and queries not replied to, so do not expect much!! On the other hand, you might be pleasantly surprised.
3. Noticed the families had settled in Orange Free State and Transvaal areas, both were independent Boer republics at that stage.
