I'm looking for help tracing family members for my second cousin and myself and i don't have a lot of info so it's a shot in the dark. I've tried Ancestry and freebmd but to no avail so putting out feelers in here to see if anyone can help. Second cousin's name is Sheila b 1940's. Her parents are Edna May Bell (b 21.01.1920)1st Marriage to Herbert Earnest Lovegrove (b 09.04 1917) in Sept 1939. 2nd marriage to Joseph William Lattimer (b 19.03.1921) in Sept 1941. According to second cousin, Edna May Bell's 'parents' were Robert Reid Bell (b 1863) and Mar(r)ion Steele (b 1867). However, Freebbmd has the mother of Edna May Bell as being named Biggarstaff. That's where we draw a blank for any other ancestors. The only clue i have about Biggarstaff is she talked with a scottish accent, so presuming maybe Scottish. I don't have any access to scottish records so can't go any further. If someone can point me in the right direction I'll have a go. Be great if i or someone out there can help with this very limited amount of info to help us in our research. Fingers crossed!!!

Could she have been married before, so her maiden name was Biggarstaff and her married name Steele?
Is your second cousin still alive, if so you need to remove her name?

Hmm if Marion Steele was born in 1867 that would make her 53 years old when she had Edna Mary Bell. Not impossible but I would have thought unlikely....
I have done a quick search on Ancestry and there are at least a couple of Edna M Bells born in 1920 so wondering if you definitely have the right parents there for her?
Does your second cousin have a copy of her parent's marriage certificate?

The only Robert Reid Bell I can find was b 1893 in Newcastle. He's on the electoral register there in the 1920s with a Marion Bell and Hugh Biggerstaff
-
It was Robert's father James who was b c1863 and mother Mary c1867
Marys maiden name appears to be Reid. Not sure where Steele comes from.
Marion Biggerstaff was b Glasgow

The only place you will find original Scottish records is Scotlands People website a pay to view site but very reasonably priced its free to register and to search the indexes
-
There's a birth of a Marion Biggerstaff registered in 1891 in the Maryhill area of Glasgow you can download this and you should get the name of her parents including her mothers maiden name, where and when they were married

A Robert R Bell married a Marion Steele June quarter 1919 Newcastle upon Tyne.

Regimental Number: 23/775
His effects record notes widow Marion

Marion's parents were Adam and Marion Smith married 1878 in Partick. Marions birth from Family Search https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTXB-L3X
Adam's parents look to be Samuel and Jessie McCrorie
Adams birth also from Family Search https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYYG-1MX
A family tree on Family search has a marriage for Samuel and Jessie in Ayrshire in 1853 but nothing coming up on Scotlands People
found the marriage it is indexed under Bickerstaff

Hi everyone I must apologise about some of the dates. I have revised them below:-
Robert Reid Bell b 1893 d 1962
Marion Steele b 1892
I don't know if this helps any.
Regards
PS someone said if second cousin is still alive then her name has to be removed, can i ask why?

Hi Paul,
It is against RootsChat rules to publish information on living folk, often the details given can be security questions in banking etc full name, date of birth mother maiden name etc You are best to be a little more general " M Brown born in the 1960's"
Regards
Sarah

1901 census in Maryhill has parents Adam, b Ayr c1856 and Marion, b Prestwich c1859
Marion's birthplace was likely to have been Prestwick, next town to Ayr, rather than Prestwich, which is in Lancashire, England. Often confused.
