Title: Robert Norman Birth Record in Ireland
Post by: rainbowsandskies on Thursday 13 September 18 11:08 BST (UK)
Hello,

I'm trying to find a birth record for Robert Norman, born in Ireland. It's thought he was born in Dublin but this is only speculation. The family came over to England following the end of World War 2.

His Death Record states he was born on 31 May 1932, and died on 17 Oct 1991 in London. I don't know of his parents names or any siblings.

Thanks in advance for any help.

 :)

If you seach the 'Irish Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958' on the FamilySearch website (you can register for free), you will find one possibility for a birth registered in 1935, the information includes the mother's maiden name.

If  he was born in Northern Ireland, he won't appear in those indexes.  What else do you know about the family if they came over after WWII?

He left an estate -- address noted as 65 Fairfield, Arlington, London NW1. Admin granted 31 January 1992.  Estate not exceeding 125,000 pounds.  Getting a copy of the estate file might provide some info.

Also, a possible marriage:

Name:   Robert Norman
Date of Registration:   Oct-Nov-Dec 1953
Registration district:   Islington
Inferred County:   London
Spouse:   Margaret R East
Volume Number:   5c
Page Number:   1836

Online family tree has him married as noted above.  Mother's maiden name given as Bridget Sutton, no father's name given.   Marriage info should have father's name.

Welcome to RC rainbowsandskies

I looked at the tree on line that eileenwilson referred to and it refers to seven children
There are seven UK birth to a NORMAN/EAST combination between 1954 & 1966
Which would imply the marriage found refers to this family

If this has the correct information for his mother - there should be a NORMAN/SUTTON combination for marriage which I cannot see in Ireland or England; it may be in the North of Ireland

It maybe that the on-line tree owner mistakenly thought SUTTON was his mother's name
as there is an 1932 birth of a Male NORMAN in Dublin
Civil Registration is in Q2 (Apr-Jun) 1932 in Dublin North ref# Volume 2 P342
MMN (Mother's maiden name) McDERMOTT
This would be the correct quarter for a DoB of May 31 1932

You can apply for a scanned copy of the birth cert using the reference above from LINK (https://www.welfare.ie/en/downloads/Application-Form-post-in-English.pdf) for €4
This would allow you to check if the date matches

There are two further births to this combination of names
Male 1934 Dublin North Q1 V2 P354
Unstated gender 1936 Dublin North Q2 V2 P331

There is another Male NORMAN in 1932 (MMN Ferns) but in Q1 which should be too early

There is a marriage in 1932 for
Edward NORMAN & Mary Bridget McDERMOTT LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1932/08999/5256918.pdf) to record

I would start by either contacting the owner of the ancestry tree to see if they can confirm their information
or
Ordering the 1932 Dublin North birth record of Male NORMAN to see if the date is 31.May.1932
as this will give you a starting point or a family to exclude!

Hi all,

Thank you for all of your help, I'm really grateful! I'll look into ordering some certificates and then update on here if anyone else is researching this family.
