my 3rd X Great grandmother was Janet Findlay born around 1816 in Fyvie according to 1851 and 1861 Census, she died 4th June 1862 in Ellon. She was married to William Duncan (1814-1879). On her death certificate her parents are given as Alexander Findlay (agricultural labourer) deceased and Janet Findlay (m.s Gray) deceased. So far I have found nothing about the parents, no birth/marriage or death. I have seen other children of a Alexander Findlay and Janet Gray in Bellie from 1781 - 1791 with their Janet born 1791 so I don't think this is the same family. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

There is an 1851 entry for an Alexander (70) & Janet (63) Findlay living in Aberdeen. They have 2 chikdren James & Mary with them
Have you seen that entry?
-
No CaroleW I had not seen that entry I will take a look at it and see if I can find anything out, thanks.

I think you are right. It's just possible, I suppose, for a woman married very young to have two children 36 years apart, but pretty unlikely.
There must have been two couples who happened to have the same names, though I cannot find any record of either marriage.

I think those are Alexander Findlay and Janet Mollison/Molyson. Their son James was born in Newhills on 6 March 1826 and would have been exactly 25 years old on census day 1851. Their daughter Mary was born in Newhills on 10 November 1828 and would have been exactly 22 years old on census day 1851.

Yes Forfarian it is Janet Mollison so not my Janet :(.

What information have you on Elizabeth & William 's marriage? Have you found any christenings for the Duncan family? Sometimes the grandparents are witnesses or sponsors. Have you considered that the informant on Janet's death certificate would not have known her parents personally & may have been mistaken with the names? Perhaps Janet's parents were unmarried.

No witnesses listed on their marriage but I will check the births of their children.
There was a Jannet Findlay born 1815 in Fyvie to Alexander Findlay and Jane Ridd, I will follow that road separately and see where it takes me also in case mums name was wrong on certificate but it could lead to nothing. Thanks.

I think Jane Ridd should read Kidd. There is another birth for a couple with that name. Elisabeth Findlay christened 31 Jan 1820. Also there's a stillborn child November 2nd (sorry don't have year at hand). I will go back & read it as it does give an address in Fyvie parish!Wrong spy it's 1851.
Here is a link to place names in Fyvie parish.
