Title: Stone Masons in Cork

I was wondering if anyone could help me with regards to the history of masons in Cork from the 1800's until the 1920's to start me off on my searches? Were they all freelance workers or did they have a register of some kind? Would it be possible to trace where my ancestors worked as masons? Thanks in advance.
