Title: Taunton censuses 1891 and 1901
Post by: Ann Laurette on Friday 14 September 18 09:52 BST (UK)
Is there a kindly soul who could check the above censuses to see if there was a farrier or blacksmith in either Stephen Street or Gyffarde Street Taunton?

Cannot see Gyffarde St on either the 1891 or 1901 Census.
Looking at old maps of Taunton Gyffarde St did not exist in 1890 and is there by 1902/03. What is your source of there possibly being a blacksmith/farrier there about this time?

Yet to check Stephen Street.

Someone living in Stephen Street has a garage which has stable doors and a cobbled floor and she assumed it was previously used by a farrier or blacksmith...maybe 1911? Her property is at end  of Stephen Street with junction into Gyffarde Street..Thanks

I've checked the 1901 census and there is no farrier or blacksmith listed for Stephen Street or Giffarde/Guffarde Street.

Nothing for the 1911 either.

Knowing the number of the property would be helpful.  Do I assume that the property is in Stephen Street?

Gyffarde Street and Stephen Street do appear in 1911 but there is no one listed as a Blacksmith.
