Hi,
I am looking for any information on Thomas Hercules PITTOCK born c 1829 in Walmer, Kent.
He was the son of William and Ann who were living in the High St, Walmer in 1841. Thomas is not listed.
I would be very grateful if someone could come up with any information on him as I draw blanks everywhere.
Thank you

The baptism record gives his name as Thomas Hercules BAKER:
Born 20 Aug 1827 & Baptized 22 Sep 1829 Thomas Hercules son of William & Ann Pittock,
surname BAKER, Walmer , father's occupation Gentleman
Edit : William Pittock on the 1841 census is an Ag Lab.

Hi Christine53,
Thank you very much for that, even though it is very confusing. Son of William and Ann PITTOCK, but his name is BAKER!!!!
William PITTOCK as far as I know married Ann NORRIS in Sept 1828 at Walmer.
Could this be son of William PITTOCK and Ann BAKER? Very odd that Ann BAKER was also married to a William.
rosie93, thank you for trying, but for whatever reason I cannot gain entry to familysearch. Whatever I try, it will not let me in.
Thank you both very much from a very confused Salty

Another thought, which I should have thought of at the time ::)
Born in 1827 son of William and Ann PITTOCK, that Ann was Ann NORRIS and then the BAKER family adopted Thomas!!!
So many equations. ???

I have now found a reference on Ancestry to the birth
Thomas Hercules BAKER born 20th August 1827, Bapt 22nd Sept 1829
Father William BAKER, mother Ann PITTOCK.
Now wondering who the Ann PITTOCK was ???

Hi Rosie,
I have tried registering etc, but it just doesn't want to know me :'(, But thank you very much.

Hi Christine53,
Thank you very much for that, even though it is very confusing. Son of William and Ann PITTOCK, but his name is BAKER!!!!
I interpret this as meaning that the father is William Baker , not Pittock. I haven't found a marriage for William Baker and Ann Pittock , but they had two children baptized at Knowlton , Edward 1816 and Harriet 1819 where the mother's maiden name is mentioned as Pittock. It's not entirely unknown for mother's name to be given - it is common in Norfolk registers.
With regard to familysearch , it doesn't work if you are using Internet Explorer.

Thank you Christine, got there in the end. I am now wondering if Ann PITTOCK is connected to my PITTOCK's which were William born c 1796 in Great Mongeham, Kent and Ann NORRIS his wife who was born in c1803 Walmer.
Yes I am using Internet Explorer, says it all really.
Thank you very much for your time, very much appreciated.

Hi Sally,
I am a bit confused here.
Are you researching the Pittocks in general or are you descended from Thomas Hercules Baker ( illeg Son of William Baker and Ann Pittock) ?
-
Trish,
I am researching my Pittock line. Somehow this Thomas Hercules sneaked in under the radar, but has now been discounted as his surname is BAKER not PITTOCK.
DNA has put me with a lady where we are third cousins and we are trying to work out where we are connected. I think I have worked it out but the other party was convinced it was through Thomas Hercules. Unfortunately I think we are going to have to wait until the 1921 census comes on line to even try to prove my theory.
Thank you every one.

Hello Salty
At risk of throwing a spanner in the works, looking at the Great Mongeham records, William Pittock baptised 10th July 1796 was married to Sarah not Ann. Haven't found a marriage yet.

Hi AJ,
The marriage details I have are that William Pittock married Ann Norris at St Mary's Church, Walmer on the 20th Sept 1828.
Salty
-
AJ,
William and Ann did have a daughter Sarah in 1831.

Quite right ,Salty
William Pittock did indeed marry Ann Norris at St Mary's, as you say. I was confusing baptism and marriage in the Gt Mongeham record. There was a William Pittock baptised in Gt Mongeham on 10/7/1796 to John & Sarah Pittock. Whether this William is yours is not easy to say. John & Sarah hadThere were 11 children and if you have the names of any of William's siblings, this may help narrow it down.

AJ100,
It gets confusing when there is more than one AJ with numbers after the name. :) ;D
I have two children only for John and Sarah Pittock nee JORDAN and they are William 1796 and Sarah 1801.
If you have more from the same parents I would be very happy to have them, Thank you
