Title: Thomas Billings and Elizabeth Tursell?
Post by: Taylor94 on Sunday 16 September 18 14:47 BST (UK)
Hello
A few trees give a marriage license for my 9th grt grandparents in Northamptonshire as 'Thomas Billings, Gent' of Cottingham to an Elizabeth Tursell/Turnell of Cottingham? dated 1688. I cant seem to find a record for this marriage myself anywhere and I'm not sure if Elizabeth's surname is indeed Tursall/Tursell on the photocopy of the license given on some trees.
Any help appreciated.

Many of the early parish registers have not survived or are damaged and illegible.

Could the name be Turrell a variation of Tyrell?

This is a snippet from the License. I'm not sure how they got a copy of it, Must have been from the Register office as I cant find it anywhere. They have it down as Tursell but I'm not 100% sure that is correct.
'The above bound Thomas Billings, Gent and Elizabeth Tursell, Spinster both of Cottingham.

Thomas was a Personal Assistant and Gentleman Servant to John Dove Esq at Bury House in Cottingham. Over saw the Estate and held land as a trustee until John's sons came of age. He was also present at Johns will and at his burial.
