A German-born hairdresser who settled in Australia, he was married in 1866, sought after for abandoning his wife in 1874, wife died 1877, but fate of Henry unknown. Daughter's marriage noticed gives him as the 'late' father in 1895. Hard man to track, exact origin in his home land remains unknown.

Have you looked on FamilySeach? I have Mohrs in my tree, they came from Württemberg, Germany. I found their emmigration to the UK on the Wuerttemberg Emigration Index.
-
Use family search heaps, only his wedding shows up there. Not heard of the other service you mention tho.
-
Not much info to go on.
Whats the name of his wife and daughter
Where did they marry
etc etc
-
his wife was Elizabeth Ann Johns (b. 1843, Cornwall) they had three children, Louisa (b.1867), Henry (b.1870) and Elizabeth Jane (b.1872).
his parents are recorded as Mathias and wife Elizabeth Smith.
he married Elizabeth Ann in June 1866 at Ballarat.
his daughter Louisa married a Samuel Darkin in 1895, Henry being deceased is mentioned in the notice in the paper.
the state of Victoria don't appear to have a death notice for him.
-
I wonder if he left Australia after deserting his wife? Although he is described as deceased when his daughter married, unless she still had contact with him she wouldn't have known.
-
yes, well maintaining face being so important socially in those times, might have been easier to claim him dead than explain the abandonment I suppose.
-
i found a death certificate which reads:
The hairdresser Heinrich Georg Mohr (maybe the son) reported that
Heinrich Mohr, hairdresser, born in Wetzlar, Kreis Hünfeld, died on the 21 April 1924, 77 years old, in Schlitz, Hessen
he was married to Marie Mohr nee Mihm
I also found a marriage certificate for the same guy which reads.
Schlitz 10 August 1878
The barber Heinrich Mohr, born on the 9 June 1846 in Wetzlar
resident in Schlitz.
son of the deceased Johannes Mohr and Eisabetha Boländer
Married Marie Miehm, born 28 October 1860 in Schlitz
daughter of the deceased Christian Miehm and Katharina Döring
I have no idea if all this fits. It could be a lead

I don't think that fits to the person I'm looking for but its an amazing volume of detail.
His marriage record of 1866 in Australia shows his parents and given he is the informant here I will assume it to be correct, Mathias and Elizabeth Mohr.
The birth date comes close tho, he is said to be 27 years of age when he abandons his wife in 1874, which gives the birth date of 1847.

I agree, that probably isn’t your relative. The problem is, as I found when looking for my Mohrs, that it is quite a common German name.
-
I suspected as much, that finding a Heinrich Mohr whose mother was an Elizabeth Smith might be a task.
