Title: Bakery North Collingham,
Post by: cupcake on Wednesday 19 September 18 11:10 BST (UK)

Looking for any information on the Bakery North Collingham, Nottinghamshire.

From the information I have Leopold Henry Day and his wife Mary Day (Kidman) were of the Bakery North Collingham. Was this their bussiness or just work there -have no dates.

Leopold died 31 Dec 1938  Bromhead Nursing Home Lincoln. His wife Mary died 24 Feb 1962 at 122 Boultham Park Road Lincoln.

http://collingham-history.org.uk/picture-gallery/ has a photo c1964 (aerial view, 11th image from top).

Large 2 storey building with outbuildings - I would say the family lived on the upper floor.

Thank you so much for that Philip  :D. Very much appreciated.

A wonderful photograph and can now visulise where they lived from whatever year. Gives Leopold's name too, so I know it was his bakery.

Had a look at the1939 register. Initially confused by entry - but realise father/son apparently in same profession? -

Found an entry on the '39 register under Mabel Day - the given name Mabel ties in with "Mabel, widow" under "Leopold the elder's" will details

I haven't any information at the moment regarding their children but, it is possible they had a son in the same profession.

Yes, I do have this information as well as Mabels and it's where I came across the Bakery North Collingham address as well as their death details. After looking at Mary's will again, it names Leopold Henry Day, baker - their son.

Thank you.

It seems Leopold Henry Day (the elder- whose father was also Leopold) lived with wife Mabel at the bakery and later son Leopold Henry Day lived next door in Rose Villa.
Leopold Henry Day was a master baker and was b Huntingdonshire
His father (also Leopold)was a baker
Some of the Children of Leopold Henry Day and Mabel  became bakers -and some of the daughters helped in the shop

Thank you for looking up all this for me, it's lovely to get the family together and know the son lived next door in Rose Villa. I see Leopold H Day the son, died 1999 - Lincolnshire.

Does get a tad confusing with father and son having the same name.

From the information it looks as if they moved from Huntingdon to Newark, around 1911/1912

I see they named a son Randolph R Day  b. 17 Nov 1914. He may have been named after Mabel's brother, Thomas Randolph Kidman, who, as it happens was a Master Baker and confectioner in Acton.

Have just been going through some of my papers and read Mrs Louise Kidman Mabel’s mother - passed away at Collingham, Newark  08 Aug 1930. Would appear Louisa went to stay with Mabel.

Hadn’t made this connection till now.

That is a very interesting report from the Oxfordshire Weekly News, 21 Mar 1917. They were my Grandparents. I thought I had most information on them but, don't have this  one . Thank you.

Could you check the date and give the page number, please. CC has asked me to have a look for it but I don't see it on any of the pages 1-8.  It's not coming up as a name search either.

Maybe my eyes haven't spotted it.

The year is wrong - which I should have noticed. The wedding of Gerdrude Partridge to Mr Percy Charles Kidman was Oct 1904

That's a good way out - Oct 1904 is a lot different from  21 March 1916  ;D

Did you find them in the Oxford Weekly News in 1904?

There's a piece in the Biggleswade Chronicle of 30 Sept 1904.It's not very much just about Percy being presented with a clock on the occasion of his marriage.

I can see where I went wrong with the wedding report and the date of 21 March 1917. I had already identified an item re. Thomas Randolph Kidman for that date but didn't post. Incorrectly picked up that date in my notes when posting the wedding details.
You may wish to check out TRK on that date.

Not I, having gone through the paper looking for Percy and Gertrude's wedding  :-X

Still, I found the correct page!
