Please help settle a conundrum. James Kneebone, born 24 Dec 1797 in Redruth.
Nothing on COPC or IGI.
Others believe he is the s/o of Thomas and Mary NOELL, but all their children were born and bapt in Gwennap.
If someone can find his birth and his parents we would appreciate the solving of the mystery.
Thanks

There is a gap in Redruth PRs online from 1749 to the early 1800s. FreeReg and FamilySearch also have nothing.
I have some Redruth ancestors I'm stuck with as well :(

The BTs for Redruth are available for browsing via the familysearch Catalogue. I've looked at 1797/8 but no Kneebone baptism.

I have seen a copy of his birth from the Cornwall County Council Office, but it is so small enlarging it only makes it unreadable.

The 1861 census states James born Redruth but the 1851 census states Gwennap!!
The date you mention is for a John Kneebone, 24/12/1797 Gwennap, son of Thomas and Mary.
You need to have a check of the original Gwennap baptism to see if it is definitely a John and not a James.
Redruth baptisms are on Cornwall OPC for 1797 and definitely no Kneebones listed.

Again images of the BTs for Gwennap are on fs and the baptism for 24 December 1797 definitely says John son of Thomas and Mary Kneebone.

When is the first proved sighting of James KNEEBONE? Marriage, census, or death record?
If we track back from the known to the unknown we may succeed.
So far, we know that a John Kneebone was baptised on 24 Dec 1797 in Gwennap (which is later in Redruth registration district). We don't know if John was later misnamed as James, or if there was definitely a James we haven't found yet. ??? ???

The John chr 1798 in Gwennap was the s/o Thomas and Mary NOEL. He married Elizabeth Phillips in 1819. Some of their children emigrated to Victoria Australia, John died pre 1851 as Elizabeth was a miners widow with 2 of her daughters in the 1851 census.
Thomas parents were Thomas and Honor Trewartha, and all of the Trewartha researchers (including me) do not have a James.

I'm confused ??? ???
What other evidence is there that James existed?
(TREWARTHA - oooh, does this line link to Robert TREWARTHA married 10 Feb 1661 Gwennap Thomasin JAKE - my multiple-great grandparents?)

Hi Cousin
Yes, Robert and Thomsin/Thamsin Jake were my 6th g. grandparents.
James and Elizabeth Kneebone and children were in Redruth in 1841 and 1851.

This James is being a bit of a headache, his ancestors insist he is a son of Thomas and Mary Noel, with no confirmation except a note from someone in the Truro Family History Society some years ago. If there was any way to find the true parents of the James Kneebone who married Elizabeth Rabey Hosking in 1821 in Stithians it would be a miracle.
This Kneebone family (Thomas and Mary Noel) are part of the wider Trewartha clan, who have been well researched by better heads than mine.
How can I convince the descendants of James that he is not in the correct family?
Cheers
