Could somebody please help me with details from the 1901 census for Mary Jane Tucker born c 1851 & living in Devon, spouse William. I think they married in Hampshire in 1894?
Many thanks

Is this the one you mean

Yes looks like it but it eliminates them completely.
Thank you

If you know Mary Jane's maiden name we could try checking for births on the General Register Office Index, find children's names and maybe track them that way.

Was the marriage in South Stoneham in 1894 if so a Mary J Tucker b 1848 Married is on 1901 census RG13/1063/12/16

Thanks both - I think the info I have been given eliminates Mary Jane Tucker. The person I am looking for had the maiden name of MEAD & she was born Salisbury, Wiltshire 1848. She married in 1869 Flatman, & he ran off with someone else. She disappears after 1871.

OK can see in 1881 a Mary J Flatman 1849 b Broad Chalke Married occ Domestic Servant visiting a Mead family in an Asylum in Portsea, Hampshire Census ref RG11/1145/102/1

The Mead family in 1881 Mary J is visiting does that not assist?

Ps. The only trouble is there were several Mary Jane Mead’s born around the same time in Wiltshire & Broad Chalke is quite a way from Salisbury. I am told the father of this MJ Mead was a gardener.

Sorry Rosie all I know is he was a gardener, I wasn’t given his name & can’t acces that info now. She married at a Wesleyan chapel in Aldershot apparently.
Keyboard86 that does look promising so the Mary Jane at Portsea could be her. Next question if it’s not too cheeky is what happened after 1881?

PS who told you the father of Mary J Mead was a Gardener?

As you know for definite that she married Arthur Flatman then you really need that marriage certificate so we know what information is given for her father and who the witnesses were.

What was his name
I have managed to find out that her fathers name was Thomas so it looks very much like the entry on the 1881CR Portsea could well be her so Thank you Keyboard86 for giving me the details of William Thomas Mead's & Thirza's marriage.
If anyone can help me with what happened to her after 1881 I would be very grateful. I cant see a death. The marriage in 1894 is unlikely to be her as she states on CRs that she was born in Somerset rather than Salisbury, Wiltshire & she had stated Wiltshire in both 1871 & 1881.

Hi again, this is not your Mary Jane Flatman b Wiltshire, this Mary Jane married Wiliam David Tucker as a Widow, her father was a William Day.

I agree the Thomas Mead you found was almost certainly her father - the family lived in Salisbury, although they did go to Broad Chalk & then back to Salisbury, hence why Mary Ann probably quotes Salisbury as her POB. Thomas is on CRs I have found as a gardener.
Would still like to find her (Mary Jane Flatman nee Mead) after 1881 Portsea.
