Title: Ardrossan WW2
Post by: Hanan on Sunday 23 September 18 19:26 BST (UK)
My Grandfather was in a reserved occupation, ship building at Ardrossan shipyard during the Second World War, he also served in the Home Guard. My daughter is doing a school project on WW2 which has made me realise we have no photographs of him during those years :(... so I have been searching the internet trying to find photographs but can't.

Do any of you lovely Rootschatters have photos they can share? His name was William McGrath, any of him or groups photos would be very much appreciated.

Also, a little background here on the Shipyard https://www.gla.ac.uk/media/media_414000_en.pdf

Also, some earlier film of the yard from 1919 on 'BRITISH MOVING PICTURE NEWS, ARDROSSAN SHIPYARD' http://movingimage.nls.uk/film/0560

Not a photo of your grandfather, but certainly lots of history there  :)

Apologies hanan, I realise this reply is most probably too late to assist your daughter. The following website is directly concerned with the "three towns" of Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston. It's free to register and there is a genealogy forum. A large number of locals and expats (such as myself) are members.

Hi.  There is a Facebook forum I am a member of called memories of Saltcoats as a kid.  Maybe post on that as someone might point you in right direction or even have photos.  Was he from Ardrossan
