Title: Forces war records Website
Post by: markharrison1973 on Thursday 27 September 18 22:04 BST (UK)
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of using the forces war records website. Do they have any additional records that are not already on Ancestry or Find My Past or is it just all the readily available collated together on one war based site.

They bombard me with messages almost every day. I ignore them.

Thanks guys. Glad I asked before parting with any cash. Hopefully I won't get bombarded with emails after my initial registration.

Forces War Records don't actually have any records!! It's just a scam; they have a huge databases of records that exist, but they don't have any of them, you get access to absolutely nothing. Stay away!

You are absolutely correct HarbourDog it is just a ploy to get you to part with your cash.

Stay clear of this site.

We must also remember that a large percentage of WW1 records were destroyed during a bombing raid in WW2 so many records no longer exist sadly.

Sometimes a War Related Question is unanswerable. One of the best sites in general is RootsChat. One of the hardest questions of mine  involved a extremely distant family of mine in England, South Africa,  Australia and later British Guiana. The South African Roots Chatters did the impossible.

Another involved thee WW1 soldiers killed on Christmas Day. I had thought they had been careless but no they were hit in a dugout by a German shell.

Always try RootsChat first.

Thanks guys. Think I managed to find all the available records between Ancestry and Find My Past.
To be fair I haven't had too many messages from the Forces War Site.

Good warning Colin thanks. It's the same with other pay sites if you forget to cancel you get stung for another month's subs.

Barryd I agree with you about RootsChat and it only costs you a Thank You.
