Title: Evelyn D'urban Arbuckle 1881

I'm trying to trace Evelyn D'urban Arbuckle's birth and death records. He was born in Durban, son of Hon. Sir William Arbuckle Kb and Lady Henriette Arbuckle (Shire). I can trace all the records of his his siblings but can find nothing on him. To my knowledge he died in 1948 in Pietermaritzburg but am not entirely sure. He was for many years hospital administrator for Greys Hospital. Evelelyn D'urban Arbuckle married to Elsie Claire Arbuckle (Button). Hope someone out there can assist.

His school record from Maritzburg College gives a birth date of 6 September 1881

If you google Sir William Arbuckle there is a site which shows all his children, plus lots of information on them.

Hi there,

I have managed to start a family tree and have found out that my grandfather Emil William Arbuckle was the illegitimate son of Urban Arbuckle and Celina - I think the surname is Single. The register that I found the information in was very cramped and the handwriting very ornate. He was born on the 20 July 1902 and the birth mothers address was given as the Pietermaritzburg Rescue Home.

Does anyone know of any more information on this matter?

I think that she was probably in the Rescue Home run by the WCTU (Women's Christian Temperance Union).

There is a dissertation on line if you google Women's Christian Temperance Union. In Chapter 5 it appears that the Rescue Homes dealt mainly with women of low virtue.  Hope that helps a bit.
