I'm looking for the origins of a Phoebe Lumley who died in Durham in 1944.I've recently been contacted by someone on a Website who suggests that her Maiden name was Jones. He said this following a Birth from the Marriage in 1921 of a Frank F Lumley and a Phoebe Rutherford in 1921 in Durham, which gives the Mother's maiden name as Jones.Phoebe's birth is given as c 1890.I'm not finding a Rutherford/Phoebe Jones Marriage in the years 1916-1921.Now given that she does not appear in the 1911 Census as Phoebe Rutherford it is highly likely that the Rutherford/Phoebe Jones Marriage took place between the years 1911-1915.

William Russell Jones.

If there was a child b 1921, then there's a decent chance he/she would be with Phoebe for the 1939 register.
However, the child Frank F(ormby) Lumley MMN Jones was born 1929
and the marriage Lumley-Rutherford wasn't 1921 either, it was Marriages Jun 1/4 1923
Have you even checked that out?
Plenty of opportunity for a WW1 marriage and widowhood for Phoebe

Possible
Sep 1912 Sunderland 10a 1333
Jones, Phoebe - spouse Rutherford
Rutherford, James - spouse Jones

Thanks for your replies it seems the 1912 Sunderland Marriage looks promising. The Lumley/Rutherford Marriage was indeed in 1923.

It does appear that I will be able to tell my contact that the purchase of the 1923 Marriage Certificate is essential in order to find further details of Phoebe Jones.

I may have a possible lead.Could Easington Durham also cover North Shields?

Phoebe Rutherford at 9 Inman Road, South Hetton (parish of Haswell)
Listed circa Autumn 1921 to Spring 1924
John + Sarah Jones listed at 8 Inman Road, among other Jones in South Hetton.
If this the Phoebe who married James Rutherford, not sure if this helps with the Lumley marriage or not!
