I am not particularly familiar with US records and am trying to establish the origins of a Michael Brennan who appears in the 1900 US Census as follows:
Michael Brennan, born Jan 1846 Ireland, parents born Ireland, married 28 years, immigration 1862, naturalization 1875, residence Manhattan, New York, occupation contractor.
Michael's wife in the 1900 census is recorded as Mary. One of their sons, James Brennan, gave the name Mary Goff as his mother's name when he married Genevieve Snyder in 1904 in Manhattan.
I am interested in Michael Brennan as a few of my AncestryDNA matches have trees that lead to him. I believe from looking at the matches I share with these matches that my common ancestor may have been from around Strokestown in County Roscommon, Ireland (so perhaps Michael was?).

Could this be the same family in 1880 New Haven Connecticut. ??? Different birth place for those 3 children compared to the 1900 census ???
Michael Brennan 33 born Ireland. Labourer.
Mary Brennan 30 born Ireland.
John Brennan 5 born Connecticut.
James Brennan 3 born Connecticut.
Thomas Brennan 5 months. born Connecticut.

As you said the marriage of James Brennan 5 June 1904 gives his mother as Mary Goff and also says he was born Brooklyn in 1877.

The death of James Brennan - 27 October 1945 - Manhattan, New York - confirms birth date of 21 March 1877.
Burial Garden Of Heaven Cemetery.

Thank you very much Sandra, that does seem like it could well be them despite the different birthplaces for the children - the children's names and ages fit perfectly :)
I'm going to have a look at Connecticut naturalisations to see if I can find one for Michael Brennan around 1875.
Many thanks again.
