Title: Help finding this person
Post by: olivia_henry on Friday 05 October 18 19:45 BST (UK)
Hello Everyone. I recently found an old post office savings book belonging to my great grandfather from the late 1930s. I only have a small amount of information about where he stayed when he lived in england. The address on the book is 21 woodside rd, Kingston on-Thames. I was hoping to find out where I could find out more information about who he lived/stayed with, if he married or had any children when he was there. If anyone can help point me in the right direction of where to start my search that would be great.

Welcome to Rootschat. Can you give us his name?

Try searching for him on the 1939 Register, which is on Ancestry and Find My Past. Because of copyright we are not allowed to give information from that.

And a warm welcome to Rootschat from me.

There is also the possibility of finding him on electoral rolls.  If you let us know his name we could help you in the search.

when he lived in england.

Was he born in England or elsewhere?

If he was your great grandfather - then either your grandmother or grandfather was his child so what was the name of your grandmother/grandfather and where and when were they born?

He was born in Northern Ireland, and my grandmother(his daughter) is called Veronica and was born in Northern Ireland in 1943. He worked in England for a while but we think he might have had other children before my grandmother was born but we've never found anything concrete to prove that.

Do you have a copy of his Irish marriage cert?  When did he marry?

What is his marital status?  bachelor/widower/divorced?

Not much on the 1939 register for that address...just one person named Patrick Quinn born 1885.

It looks as though Patrick Quinn may have worked as a labourer in the gardens of Hampton Court (Palace).  Might Francis also have worked there, and lodged with Patrick?  Or he may have known Patrick from home.

I think they may have known each other from home and lodged together but I couldn't be sure.

It’s a nice looking house!  You can see a photo of it on Google maps/street view.

Just the one person (Patrick) was listed. Thought that was a little odd!
