Title: Storey and Noble
Post by: sugar46 on Saturday 06 October 18 11:10 BST (UK)
My brother's DNA test shows that we have a distant relation who was a Noble. The link was probably due to an adoption or illegitimate birth. I have contact with several Nobles. One has marriages between the two families. Does anyone have historical information about these families around the Bewcastle area which might help me. My oldest known ancestor was Oliver Story, born 1798 in County Cavan. The Noble match had an ancestor in County Down, about 1770.
We believe the families may have gone to Ireland during the Ulster Plantation in the 1600's.

It doesn't help tie the families together, but I thought this was interesting:

If you are related to Hobbie Noble you could claim some major bragging points!

:)Thank you Philip, the Hobbie Noble story is interesting, and may be typical of tales from that era.
It's a fascinating time in British history which I had never heard of......

There is a book "Story's of Old" which was printed privately around 1920 and has very extensive family trees of many Story (Storey) families. Some trees are enormous and list 500 individuals. It runs to over 400 pages and is about the size of the old style Victorian family bibles. Unfortunately there is no author's name.

Thank you for your reply. I did have a link for this book which was posted by Brad Storey from Australia.
Somewhere in the general melee of my filing system I have mislaid it!
At the time I did not know about my brother's Y DNA match to Nobles, so I will have to get busy and look for it,
regards,
Suzanne
