Title: Ignore a thread.
Post by: Mike in Cumbria on Sunday 07 October 18 22:37 BST (UK)
I'm having trouble locating the check box for ignoring new replies to a thread. I'm told it is there, but I'm either being very stupid or it's not there. Anyone able to help?

You want the NOTIFY box.

Unfortunately you still see it as new replies, but you dont get emails about it.

I use the Unread Posts listing  and then click the ignore box  opposite the relevant thread reply.

I don't think you can ignore otherwise.

To avoid confusion, that image was just for illustration purposes! I have nothing against that particular thread.

Is it a thread that you posted on?

Thanks Gadget. On your screenshot, I can see the checkboxes, but I don't see them on my screen. This screenshot is of my Unread Posts screen

Hallmark - yes.

There's something about it here, Mike

I remember that the boxes weren't showing for me originally.  Not sure if I did something with my Account settings.

Have you had a look at your Account settings in your profile.  There's and Ignore topics option on the left hand list.  Maybe you have to activate it. I don't want to experiment with mine as I have a whole list of ignore topics.

I go to the post that I have responded to and click the Unotify button then I get no further email notifications from that topic. You can also unsubscribe from topic in your email when comes through.

Found it,Mike

Cracked it ...In my profile it says Show quick-moderation as checkboxes  ;D
It comes under Look & Layout

I remember a topic related to the checkboxes a while ago (maybe 2 years or more). Trystan came on and said how to get them and since then I've had the checkbox entered under quick moderation.

Thanks Carol (and Pauline). I don't get email notifications though (I receive far too many too many emails already!)

It is maybe a little easier to click on the "unotify" button via the topic, rather than by the email notification. Some folk accidentally click on the...

If you'd like to unsubscribe and stop receiving any emails at all from RootsChat then click here.

This then stops all contact, but this action can only be reversed by making contact with either myself or Trystan.

Hi Sarah :)

It's not the notify/unnotify that Mike is concerned with. He, like many of us, doesn't use the notify at all. It's the 'ignore topic' option that has to be activated via Look and the Layout option ->Quick-moderation ->checkboxes.

This will then bring up the Ignore Topic option column  in the Unread and New Replies facilities.

Trystan told us about it a few years ago  and I've used it ever since.

You need to look at Gadget's reply #10 on this thread.

Go to your profile
Click on Modify Profile
Look and layout
At the very bottom make certain it is showing 'Show quick moderation as checkboxes'.

The ignore buttons should now show when you click on Unread threads or New replies.

I was looking for the Ignore options in the Ignore Topics Options  section!

That is why I couldn't find it.

Fantastic! Thanks all. I've had problems for years with topics that I've "unnotified" from still popping up in my unread posts, it's been driving me potty. Hopefully no longer!
