Hi All.
I have just indexed some 2,000+ graves from the above Cemetery so if anyone has a rellie buried please ask if the information is not known to you.

Hi Sandy
I have seven names in my database who apparently died in Wellingborough but for whom I haven't any burial details. Should I list them here or send the names in a PM?
Cheers Alan
-
I will have a look if you say who Alan.
London Rd is the smaller cemetery but possible.

Hi Sandy
Firstly well done. Quite a task!
Thank you for offering to find names. A branch of my Vines family lived in the Wellingborough/Irthlingborough area in the mid/late 1800s and early 1900s. I wonder if any of them are in your list?
cheers
Tony

Hi Tony.
None that I have, sorry. I went past the cemetery the other day and they have a new groundsman and it looks excellent from when I took the graves years ago.
I do have a lot for Finedon and Irthlingborough but not enough hours in the day to get around to indexing them yet.
Will keep you in mind.

Thanks Sandy. It is certainly no biggy for me because the person concerned was only a half great great uncle and I haven't therefore followed his line in great detail.

Hello Sandy
Thank you for your offer, was hoping you could help with my Bryant's and wondered if any were in your database.
-
I have a few listed here which means I have a photo.
Sandy
-
In case they are related here is the first one on the list.
Sandy
-
If any of the others are let me know.
Sandy

Hello Sandy,
I would be interested in your photo of the gravestone of William and Mary Bryant. I already have the other Bryant gravestones from your list thanks to another contact. My connection to this family is through Gertude Ethel May Bryant (nee Byles), the sister of my grandmother, which I think must make me a distant relation of Willsy.
Many thanks for all of your help.

Hi Paul straight away I see a mistake on my index. :)
Mary was 53 not 55 and I thought I had checked them all with GRO.
Anyway here is the headstone although it is not very clear but I can send by e-mail if you
would prefer a sharper copy.
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy,
I already had a transcription of the important parts of the inscription so this photo should do the job nicely.
Regards,
Paul
-
Thank you Sandy, they are a big help and part of my Bryant family, really appreciate all the work you have put in.
-
Hi Paul
Yes we are!
William Bryant who marries Mary Field is the brother of my Thomas.
-
Hi Willsy,
Always happy to find a relative however distant.
If you would like to compare notes with me just drop me a PM so we don't clutter up Sandy's thread.
Regards,
Paul
-
Here is some of the others.
Sandy
-
I am having to reduce the image so much that you can not read them
to put on Rootschat.
Paul can I e-mail them to you and then you can pass on.?
Sorry I just realised you said P.M.
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy,
No problem e-mailing them to me but maybe we should wait and see what Willsy wants to do...
Regards,
Paul
-
Of course, was just about to post I will contact Paul with details...when that familiar red warning appeared!
Just like to say thank you to you both and will pm you Paul
-
Willsy I will get around to sending to Paul in the next few days as bogged down with making poppies for our Poppy Appeal.
Sandy
-
No worries, thanks Sandy.
-
I have not forgotten will do in next couple of days unless you wish to send me your e-mail
and I can send direct.
Sandy
-
Now sent. :)
Sandy

Fantastic, thank you :)

FindMyPast have just added some images from London Rd from the site Billion Graves today.
It might be worth folk having a look.
Sandy
-
I think my Grandfather Frank Weekley is buried there, have you got that on your list? Any other Weekleys? Thanks in advance.
-
Hi DiandDave.
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
I am afraid I do not have any of the surname Weekley.
Sandy

Thanks Sandy

Thank you

Hi Sandy
Thank you for this kind offer! Would you be able to check if two of my relatives are on your list please? They lived on Midland Rd in Wellingborough.
Marcus Montagu Holme, died 1881 and William Tennyson Holme, died 1907. (The name was also often mis-spelt as Holmes).
Many thanks,
Sophie :)
-
Hi Sophie.
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
I am afraid there are no stones that I have for that Surname.
Sandy

Thanks Sandy. :)
And thank you for checking!

Hi Sandy, I've been trying to find out where the registers are held, but getting no response from Wellingborough Council :( I'd like to create a history walk around the cemetery, highlighting some of the graves/people of interest. If you could please point me in the right direction I would be very grateful!!! I'd also like to create a 'friends of' group for the cemetery to help with maintenance etc. I do a litter pick every month but I know there is a lot of interest from other people. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hi Alison.
Welcome to Rootschat.
As far as I know the registers are held at Wellingborough Cemetery Office.
https://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/info/200032/deaths_funerals_and_cremations/228/cemeteries
Maybe with Covid19 there are not dealing with Family History queries?
I have been trying for years to get a map but have not been able to.
As they say they do charge for some services.

I managed to track down the location of the burial registers for Doddington Road and London Road cemeteries in 2018. I was told they are held by a company contracted by the council to maintain the cemeteries, called Wellingborough Norse. I contacted the company, they took the registers from the safe to do a quick cursory search for me but had no luck because apparently the registers are in no chronological or logical order. Very frustrating knowing two of my ancestors must be in there! I’m surprised they’re not being transcribed, or transferred to the record office or something. Though I don't know if the situation has changed since I contacted them...
-
Thank you - I finally received a reply from Norse to confirm that they have the registers. I have asked if there is anyway that copies could be provided, or whether I could spend time in the cemeteries office to enter them onto a database? I'll let you know if I get a response! (I'm an archivist and have spent my life working with records such as these). Do you think it would be worth submitting an FoI request to Wellingborough to see if that unearths a map? Norse also didn't seem to think that there was any record of monumental inscriptions which I would dearly love to get transcribed to (when I was at York City Archives there was a very active cemeteries group that did inscriptions so may ask for their advice. Has anyone been to Northamptonshire archives or contacted them to see what they hold? Their catalogue doesn't throw up much.
-
Hi Alison.
Thanks for the background to your previous work, sounds excellent.
Anyway some cemeteries charge for looking up information from the registers
in Northamptonshire. I do not think Wellingborough would allow what you wish
to do as I know Melody at Wellingborough Museum (I don't think she is there know)
tried to get access to them. I think it is to do with copyright. I hope you are more successful.
I was doing a war project awhile ago and some cemetery offices allowed me access to view
the original burial books.
Northamptonshire Family History Society have a list of M.I. (they are an excellent resource)
although they do not cover many cemeteries.
In Northants you often have to get permission from the Vicar, Cemetery Office
to be able to record the inscriptions.
I myself have gone around many Northants Church's, Cemeteries taking photo's of graves.
I am too old now :)
Let us know how you get on please.

Hi Sandy,
I've just noticed this thread and wondered whether you could check your list for a William Green b1826 - d1890 if possible. I know he died in Wellingborough but don't know where he is buried.
Thanks,
Andrew
-
Hi Andrew.
I only have one gravestone to a William Green dying in 1881 aged 73 years old, wife's name Adelaide.
Maybe Ally mybe having some luck now on a cemetery plan etc.
Therefore sorry I could not help you.
Sandy
-
Hi Ally.
How have you got on with the Wellingborough Cemetery Office re: the grave plan and burial register.
I hope it was good news.
Sandy
